i havent met many nice girls and i've lived here all my life. most fo the girls here are crazy. i wish i could find some that weren't. maybe then id have some friends ;)
- pepe0
people here are pretty gnarly there or gems in the rough though.....its not as easy to find shit here cuz its sooo damn spread out!
- machito0
its alll a point of view, I'm at the point where I can tell the crazy girls from the nice girls... its in the eyes. And aalso the drunken slurs they be havin. But shellie I know you and your nice... so far.

Well, I agree with Pepe on shit being hard to find because this damned place is so spread out. I mean, I work 30 freakin' miles away for crying out loud.
And with the chick thing? Maybe there are cute ones, but LA people in general are a bit crabby--especially when driving! Rarrr! And I've heard enough guys complain of "LA bitchez"

I'm really crabby, and I live in LA.
damn jen's right.

heres the deal with LA:
there is no design scene, really, because, just like anywhere else, design does not really stand alone. if you want a design scene, go to art school. much of the design action that goes on is related to music, art, graffiti, entertainment, furniture, food, nature...there is an amazing "design scene" if you aren't looking for design.
as far as creative options, there are tons of things going on, you just have to dig a little, meet people and find out whats up. it really is a microcosm of the world at large. it seems like every person and street in Los Angeles is its own "design scene", you just gotta abre los ojos.
as far as jobs, there is plenty of work. craigslist is not a clear indication. you have to get out there and get involved, and meet people. a lot of money flows through Los Angeles, and you can get it if you get out there and hustle. i have been freelancing since 2000, and i got no complaints.
one more thing i must add is that LA is super-diverse. all of the stereotypical hollywood types are usually people who just moved here from missouri hoping to be the next julia roberts and end up working at starbucks. LA natives either dont care about the entertainment industry or have a nice job behind the scenes painting sets or running errands for a production. or designing shit for them people, like i do...
i love LA. best place to live.

man NYC is soooo 2001. all of the "the bands" sorta played it out. i would not live in NYC, although its a great place to visit.

LA is rad...theres definitely a design scene here, its just harder to get in the loop than in other cities...there are some reallllllly sick designers out of LA right now though......
jen i work like 20 miles from home its rediculious!
- skonge0
I just stay at the beach. I love it here.

this place is not so bad once you resign yourself to it. and there are dollars, stability, and a semi-creative work environment to be had if you are persistent.
i never designed so much as a matchbook cover until three years ago, and thanks to this environ i had a chance to work at dna, be somewhat successful contracting out through an agency, and now i have a stable, easy, and decent-paying job designing medical interactive training programs...and i STILL have time for my own shiot.
i hated it when i first moved here, and only did so to be near my girl who has to stay here right now for fambly reasons...now i just kind of gently loathe it and sometimes almost enjoy it.
but i'd still rather be back in NY...

ok, I got an internship this summer in LA. Anybody have any ideas to find a place to live from june to labor day. It is going to break me, but it will probably be worth it.

beachwood canyon = safe and expensive
los feliz = sorta safe, sorta expensive, pseudo 'cool'
west hollywood = very safe, very gay, very clean
glendale = stay...away...

corvis-
thanks, los feliz sounds cool. How far away is it from hollywood?

South Pas rocks! I definitely want to buy a house here. Unfortunately, I don't have a spare million.
Crime is minimal and schools are good. Cool coffee shops and everything you need nearby.
Yes, there are drugs here, but not like in say, West Covina. It's pretty mellow comparitively.
