where's the outrage for Nike Golf?
- skonge0
Remember when there wasn't alot of money to be made in $$$$$ and big companies like Nike and Adidas wouldn't have anything to do with it? Anyone?

i want my Airwalk Velocity with lace gaurd, nike's just trying to hit every sport possible. let adio, dc, es, and all the other skate specific shoe co. do their thing.

It looks like some tie-in with the Vacant thing. I don't think that big companies like nike or adidas are by anymeans going to tap the heart of the skate shoe market. If they luck out and have a shoe that gets adopted by skaters, it will probably have nothing to do with the advertising.
I contend that the Converse "Larry Bird" Weapon was the greatest damn skate shoe ever made sometimes.
I got really interested in this idea last year, so i walked around the streets and looked at the shoes that real skaters were wearing. I noticed several things. First, no bright colors. When i skated, this made sense. Bright colors show how much damage you are doing to your shoes. Black, grey, and other colors hide the fact you are riping your shoes up. Also, they are no bullshit colors. If nike or adidas wants to crack the market, i think that they should make almost an anti shoe for their market. Hit up skate shops and give insane deals for old inventory. Skaters go through shoes like crazy. Give them great shoes for 29 bucks and build up a cult following.

you miss the point, Nike aren't interested in having a cult following, making 'real' skate shoes doesn't matter to them, what they're after is the muppet crowd. The suburban wannabees that wouldn't know Matt Hensley if he'd boned a melon into their nose.
Remember when Nike always insisted they were a 'real' sports company, they weren't interested in fashion, yet now you get twenty different pairs of designer endorsed dunks a week - its sickening. Dont buy that shit.

I just thought that they have been trying to crack this market for decades. I didn't realize that they were just making a donation to themselves as a sports shoe company. I guess they just want it as a write off or something.
I just figured that they wanted a piece of the big pie and try to get into the serious skater market.
Anyway, if i were them. I would follow my original plan and sell discounts to skate shops. Then lay low and develop a name with skaters that isn't mud.

Nike are a sports equipment company and skateboarding is sport. So what?
- unknown0
you'll never get it
:P

I don't understand the fascination with skateboarding. Anyone care to enlighten me on why it's wonderful? Because lot's of people seem to think it is.

nike was never around until skateboarding became BIG. We had to rely on shoe companys that were true to skateboarding so i will continue to support the real companys. nike has a good team.. but wtf is up with those shoes? those are almost as hideous as their basketball shoes. who do they think the market is?
They did have an excellent campaign awhile back with all the joggers, golfers and what not getting hastled by the cops.

blofeldt... get a board, ride it for 10 years... you will be in love.
- skonge0
Have you ever done it?
- unknown0
blofeldt, enlighten yourself I couldn't care less.
actually dont bother.

I can understand that they would want to have a skate market. I've never seen their shoes in a skate shop or even in a sporting goods store. I have no idea who or where they plan to sell them. By design, they wouldn't be my shoe of choice to skate in.
I know that you think that i have no idea what i'm talking about and thats okay. I have built two skateshops in my life, but that was a long time ago. Maybe the market has changed. It just didn't seem like back then that a company like Nike could be something I could sell in my shop. It would have actually hurt business to have them in the store.

I agree, god, yet I also know someone who is a hardcore skater, works in a shop, and has every color combination of the Dunks. Maybe he is just spoiled....
