snowboarding injury...again

fock. so about a year and a half ago I broke my back and pelvis in a snowboarding accident (I was under a different username then, here is that post: http://www.qbn.com/topics/432096… )
so I'm finally feeling rehabbed enough to go again, and what happens? I tear my freaking calf muscle in my left leg. Separated the muscle and caused a huge hematoma that had to be drained because my calf got the size of a cantaloupe. Fucking scary and bloody awful painful. I think its time to retire from the sport I used to live and breathe and has brought me so much joy in my life.

The Spirit

Saw it last night, was just ok. I thought Sin City was bloody fucking (pun fully intended) amazing. Whereas, The Spirit seemed a distant 2nd place. Also, it was a PG13 vs a very hard R for SinCity or 300. Miller just isnt meant to make to make movies for kids.
Eva Mendes MADE this movie. So So great and so so beautiful. Samuel L and Scarlett were also very good, but the rest were a bit of a snoozer.
The story itself never really materialized, particularly for someone who never followed the graph novels.
I dunno, maybe Im just a crotchety old man and a hard sell, but I just thought this tried really hard to bite the cinematic style of Sin City, but hardly compared. Had Sin City never been made, maybe this would have been more impressive, but the it just set such a high standard, The Spirit couldn't really compare.

Cool Nerds

Stupid question, but can anyone help me think of someone considered to be a "cool nerd". Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Anderson Cooper, Andy Warholl, Albert Einstein etc?

Chrome vs Firefox

So now that google's Chrome has been out a few months, has anyone decided that this browser is for them? Better than Firefox?
I downloaded it, I suppose just to have, never with the real intention of using it day to day, just like safari.
I still far and away prefer firefox on the mac, anyone else? I just love my firefox plugins, I never see an ad or banner thanks to Ad Block Plus and also, thank you so much to Neverblink, I can even filter out the douchedrinkers who troll this site: http://www.qbn.com/topics/573603… get it!

Anyhow, anyone prefer Chrome?

Santaland Diaries by David Sedaris

Not sure if anyone has seen this one man stage adaptation to the short story David Sedaris wrote about his experience while working as a Macy's Elf one year during the holidays Santa season.
I pert near pee'd my panties wet a couple years ago when I saw it. I didn't get to see it performed by Sedaris himself, but even so, the material is just so damned funny its worth seeing.
So then, if this show is playing anywhere near you this holiday season, do yourself and your significant other a favor, and do a date night thingy. It is a lot of fun.

hear a little snippet here:

I will upload the mp3's tomorrow when I get to work (where my external hdd that contains all my music is).
Do it!

Ignore button please.

Puuhleeeze? This site is railroaded by a couple really rotten apples. They don't add color or flavor with their "totally unique and out-there perspectives", they just drag the entire integrity of this site down.
For gawds sake, please reinstate the ignore feature. I've said it before, and will again...QBN, you will GET MORE TRAFFIC and sell adds at a higher premium were you to allow people to bypass the inflammatory, derogatory, misogynistic, homophobic, racist and otherwise hateful speech that a handful of users get away with here. Which by the way, is a direct violation of the terms of use each user agrees to when joining this site.
Reading that shiite turns people off, and hence, they stop visiting the site=less page views=less ad revenue. Were there a way to filter out those users who consistently ruin otherwise great, provocative, helpful, insightful, funny and useful threads, traffic would go up and this site just might be a friendlier place.
I know I've certainly cut down on my visits here as a certain so and so has recently returned and decided it was up to him to dominate every attempt at a civil discourse.
I'm not saying people can't type whatever they want, I'm just asking that we have a tool to filter the tools.
as you were.

What's the site?

posted here a few days back, full page flash experiential site having to do with different luxury items?
There was a slide having to do with Mercedes one about a Rolex watch etc.
I dont know exactly what the point of the site was rather than just to promote some sort of aspirational lifestyle luxury items.
Thanks in advance, I've been searching high and low, but can't find anything through the filter or my browser history.

NO on Prop 8

Just returned from a VERY lively protest rally in long beach, ca. 1000's of people turned out for the event, which according to the cops, was an illegal assembly. Total bullshit. Several people arrested etc. All of them with batons in their hands just waiting to crack some protester skull. The right to peaceful assembly my ass.
Pics to come.
Another HUGE rally in LA tomorrow though, everyone in the area needs to turn out.
I hate to caveat the part about me not being gay, I wish I were, believe me. I understand men far better than I do women.
I just cant believe the idea of crafting laws to take rights away from citizens. Laws should be made to protect our rights. the mormon church donated almost half the money in the campaign to pass prop 8. if their going to be involved in politics, they should lose their tax exempt status.
Ok, as you were.

Historical Vindication

I remember how low I felt on this day, I took a screen grab knowing that eventually I would feel vindicated and hopeful again. Today I do. I also took screen grabs from last nights announcements to remember for the next time I feel low about American politics.

Backwards "B"

I suppose this may belong in the political thread, but my question isn't anything to do with politics.
So this woman makes up a phony story about how she was robbed, then her face cut with the letter B because she was a McCain supporter and allegedly the backwards B stood for Barak.
http://www.thepittsburghchannel.…
My question is this: Do you think she was just so stupid, that when mutilating herself by carving the letter into her skin, that she was looking into a mirror and therefore carved the "B" as it would appear in the mirror?

http://gaysocialites.com/photos/ashleytoddnotattacked.jpg

Almost like the Van Gogh self portrait where he appeared to have cut off his right ear, when in fact it was his left ear but just used a mirror to paint the portrait?

Kahlil Gibran

In the tradition of the "Blank of the Day" threads recently, I wanted to start a Poem of the Day thread, but I'd get trashed for it. I'm a total hippie douchebag, I know.
Really it's not so much that, but it's just that this one holds special significance to me. Recently, a dear friend committed suicide. He quoted this in his note.

I would like to have (at least an annotated version, the words between the *___*) of it tattooed on my inner upper arm.

Then Almitra spoke, saying, "We would ask now of Death."

And he said:

You would know the secret of death.

But how shall you find it unless you seek it in the heart of life?

The owl whose night-bound eyes are blind unto the day cannot unveil the mystery of light.

If you would indeed behold the spirit of death, open your heart wide unto the body of life.

For life and death are one, even as the river and the sea are one.

In the depth of your hopes and desires lies your silent knowledge of the beyond;

And like seeds dreaming beneath the snow your heart dreams of spring.

Trust the dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to eternity.

Your fear of death is but the trembling of the shepherd when he stands before the king whose hand is to be laid upon him in honour.

Is the shepherd not joyful beneath his trembling, that he shall wear the mark of the king?

Yet is he not more mindful of his trembling?

*___
For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun?

And what is to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?

Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.

And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb.

And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.
___*

- Kahlil Gibran from "The Prophet"

And now, please make fun of me, thanks.

Jimmy Carter - Man from the Plains

http://www.apple.com/trailers/so…
Just watched this, what a brilliant movie about a brilliant man.
He really was the victim of some really bad circumstances that left his presidential legacy somewhat questionable. But there is no doubt he has dedicated his life to the betterment of humanity.
Winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, heavily involved with Habitat for Humanity, author of several really great books and a huge asset to the peace process in the middle east between Israel and Palestine.
Regardless of your political affiliation, I think this movie has something for everyone, and it shows just what a gentle and decent person Carter is at his heart. How committed he is to family, his close connection to the (often African American) farmers in Georgia and across the US. He just "get's it". Of course I'm not doing the film justice, just watch the damned thing already.

unscrupulous

I work at an agency, and as many of you who have also worked in this soul stealing business, there are some shady characters.
Let's say our agency gets an RFP for some new initiative Company X wants to do. It may be a micro site, a rebrand campaign, whatever.
So usually what happens, is we'll do a brainstorming session (call it what you will, it's just semantics...) about how we can best solve the problem and deliver the presentation in a creative and interesting package.
I've just learned that a fellow CD has been registering the domain names of the ideas we come up with (not in his/her name directly), before we present it to the client. Then selling the domain back to the client when the client decides they want to pursue that particular campaign.
That's just shady to me. Apparently he/she has been successful in selling these domain names 3 different times, and for what he/she claims was a healthy return.
I was told about the plan directly from the person themselves, on the condition I not mention it to anyone. My stupid moral alarm clock thinks I should be the rat.
So then, innerneb massage bored, what would you do? tell person to knock it off (they're someone I consider a friend) or rat them out and probably watch them lose their job?
