best Film directors

Just finished watching The Wrestler. And I've seen Aronofsky's previous 3 films. He has got to be one of the best filmmakers alive.

I'd like to watch more quality movies like Aronofsky's. Any other directors and/or writers I should be following?

drinking tap water

Tap water or bottled water?

I'm hearing that the fluoridation of public drinking water is unhealthy, archaic, and expensive. And worst of all, it's just us stupid Americans who do it. Also, pharmaceuticals and toxins are being found in many states' water supplies. So I then find out that my town's water quality is below average as well!

Does anyone drink tap water, and if so, where are you from?

Do I need to start drinking Fiji water exclusively?! There goes my money.

if you won the lottery

Let's say you won the lottery and your take-home after taxes was $50million. What would you do? I assume most would quit their day jobs. But would you do something in design related?

Freelance Contracts ?

For the consultants out there, do you guys have any contracts with your clients?

My 6-month full-time gig will be coming to an end soon. It's been a daily thing with no contract. And we're talking about extending this for another 6 months.

And I'd like to put it in writing - as I'm helping them with new business pitches currently as well.

Should I approach them with something drafted? Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Fulltime plus Freelancing

Curious. How many people here have fulltime design jobs AND also freelance nights/weekends somewhat consistently?

Also, does anyone strongly recommend not trying this?

Is an $85k salary job for a graphic designer with 7 years experience too low?

evacuating the U.S.

Let's say political and societal armageddon happens in the states. And you were lucky enough to liquidate all your assets at present value.

Where do you move to continue your profession? If you're not in the US, how are things in your country currently?

I hear Singapore is one of those rare places that has yet to see it's peak, but is on a promising path.

designers use Word?

Since Word and Pages are equally bad products to use, I just use InDesign to write letters.

Does anyone here use Word/Pages to type letters? Is there an alternative to InDesign?

girls and film

Why is that most females have such a hard time engaging in movies by directors like Aronofsky, Kubrick, Von Trier, Lynch, etc. Like most of here, I love movies that make are challenging and thought-provoking, yet still entertaining.

I love my collection of Criterion films, but the GF doesn't want to, scratch that, can not watch them with me. I think I'm going to break up with her for this reason.

Bring on the quasi-misogynistic (or full-on sexist if you'd like) commentary. Or feel free to prove otherwise.

I assume it's pretty intense - going to watch it on Netflix.

a.k.a. "disciplines"

What word do you use to describe the different types of work you do?

I primarily say "disciplines", but I'm not sure it's a good word for clients.

multiplayer games

I'm probably the one person that feels this way, but I just don't get online multiplayer games like Halo and COD. I'm actually pretty good for a noob, but after a few minutes, I get bored. It's just run and gun or camping for the most part.
I don't get how some guys can get lost in these games for hours.

And it doesn't really matter what the concept is. That's the bad part.

I prefer well-done campaigns. A decent plot helps too.
