Pissed off!!!! Nov 3, 06, 3:32 p.m.
Our company normally gets out at 3:30 on Fridays. I got back from lunch at 2:30 only to be assigned a project that "needs to be done today". I won't be finished for at least 2 hours from now. I had plans I had to alter too! So pissed!!!
Just needed to get it out. thanks.
V-day gifts Jan 19, 06, 11:58 a.m.
Its getting to be that time of year again. I have a busy couple of weeks coming up so I am trying to get my shopping done now.
What is everyone getting for that significant other in their life? What will be your excuse for that look of disappointment you get when the gift you spent 4 hours picking out is just "something other than what they hoped for"?
I know jewelry is popular, but my gf tends never to wear it. SHould i buy it anyway??
laptop stolen Sep 7, 07, 8:38 a.m.
and I never even saw the sucker.
long story but it's some type of mail fraud involving either the property managers, security, or residents where I live.
$1122.14 down the drain. i'm too pissed to work right now.
can somebody give k0na a call because I need a professional ass-whooper.
The moment you knew (2) Nov 12, 08, 1:23 p.m.
I'm talking about the moment you knew you were done being a designer.
For me this happened about 7 or 8 years after moment #1 previously discussed.
I was really struggling on yet another web comp for a client. It looked like shite. I was running out of inspiration and felt trapped by the same formula I had been implementing for years.
I realized that all I do is give the same gift with different wrapping paper day in and day out.
I've been around long enough to watch trends come and go in graphic design. I don't really want to be caught up in these trends anymore, but clients keep requesting "that look."
Since this epiphany I've been moving more into the development side of things.
I want to be done being a designer, but I can't really escape it right now.
Maybe I'm just burnt out.
photoshop CS2 is sloooooow May 7, 06, 6:26 p.m.
I have a PC with a 2.6 gHz processor and 2 gigs of ram, but photoshop cs2 still lags all the time. I've tried playing with the memory allocations in the preferences but it didn't help.
I also have PS 7 installed on here which runs smooth as a hot knife through butter.
any ideas?
an update... Jan 9, 06, 11:30 a.m.
Warning.....kind of long...
So basically I'm the ultimate lurker...you probably hate me already but perhaps out of sheer curiousity and boredom you will read on...
Anyway...I signed up about a year ago and made a few posts complaining about how I was in my first job out of college and how it sucked. I basically lamented the fact that I couldn't stay up drinking red bull and playing Unreal Tournament until 4:00 AM, and I couldn't go out getting piss drunk on weeknights. I thought leaving school was going to be the end of my life!
All of you gave me lots of words of encouragement and I just wanted to thank you and give you an update. I just took 2 weeks off work (the longest vacation of my "professional" career) so it was a good time to reflect on what I've accomplished so far.
Things really aren't so bad now. In the last year I have gotten together with a wonderful lady, learned an insane amount about building websites, saved up and bought a car, and rode in the best powder of my life.
Oh and I have a new job now where I can come in wearing printed t-shirts, jeans with holes, swiming trunks, or whatever else. I'm happy about that because it makes me feel like myself again.
I pretty much read these posts everday to keep me entertained at work, and I will try to post more often because I think I decided I like you guys. Thanks for reading.
Photoshop Q - how to Mar 26, 10, 12:33 p.m.
Alright I'm sure this is pretty basic for some of you, but I just can't seem to get the results I'm after.
So I have this original picture:
And here's what I need to do:
1.) Change the color of the cloth to a dark red/pink.
2.) Separate the cloth from the white background and put it on it's own layer.
3.) Keep the edges/shadows intact so it can be imposed realistically on top of a different background.
Here's a crappy example I did in 2 minutes:
I struggle with the edges. I think I need to be using channels but I've never really worked with them before. How would you guys approach this?
Thanks!
Chicago this weekend May 22, 06, 8:42 a.m.
I will be there thurs-mon.
Looking for some good jazz bars/clubs to check out. Want to see some good live music. Also good food, and good photo ops. Never been there before so anything goes. Thanks.

The Crashers Need a Logo Jan 11, 08, 2:37 p.m.
Hey guys I've been put in charge with creating a logo for my hockey team, The Crashers. Final product will be screened on our jerseys. Looking for 2 colors max.
I'd like to think of us as more of a drinking team with a hockey problem kind of group, so pretty much anything goes.
I'm stuck so please give me some good ideas!
ATDI Feb 3, 06, 8:21 a.m.
So I was listening to At The Drive In's "Relationship of Command" for like the 1000th time on the way to work this morning, and was just lost in thought about what an absolutely spectacular band they were.
Has anyone here had the priviledge of being witness to one of their live performances? I am very curious to hear your reports.
css fluid layout HELP! Aug 4, 06, 9:25 a.m.
Calling all CSS jedi masters.
In need of a 2 column layout. One column is fluid while the other is fixed at around 200px. The columns must stay contained in their own space. This means that the fluid column cannot wrap around the fixed column if it is longer than the fixed column.
I know about ALA's holy grail article, but that is 3 columns and for the life of me I cannot get it to work with 2 in IE.
Help me please!! Before I get so frustrated that I release some fluid in my pants.
Crit my photos Jul 18, 06, 8:23 a.m.
This one's just for fun. I had the pleasure of visiting Bodie a few weeks ago. Its a gold-rush era ghost town in California located about 45 minutes outside of Mammoth.
This was one of my first experiments with shooting RAW. I like the control, but browsing and converting images was such a hastle that I don't think I'll do it again.
All images have been ajusted for color, and a lot of them have been tweaked for proper perspective on the buildings.
Anyway, I'd just like your comments about what worked, what you like or dislike or what I can do better next time. Sorry, I have no one else to ask.
backup solutions Sep 12, 07, 10:21 a.m.
How do you guys back up your work? I'm not very good about it, but want to get better.
I copy all my files (~250GB) onto an external drive once every month or so. Important stuff I save on a flash drive in between major backups.
This works for now, but I want more protection and a better piece of mind. What if there's a fire? What if my house is robbed? I'm one of those crazy what-if people!
I would like do use some kind of online back-up system in addition to what I'm doing, but from my experience so far its painfully slow.
Burning DVDs is a pain in the ass so I'd like to avoid it.
What type of system works for you?
PS nerds..please help Dec 13, 06, 1:30 p.m.
How do I make CTRL+click with the arrow tool in CS2 function the same way as older versions of photoshop?
Basically...when I have the arrow tool selected and I CTRL+click on the screen, i want it to take me to the exact layer of whatever it was that I clicked on. CS2 seems to take me to the folder containing the layer, not the layer itself.
carpel tunnel May 5, 06, 11:53 a.m.
my wrists and forearms feel strained at the end of every day. i'm thinking about switching off my mouse usage between both hands. does anyone else do this or have any tips? i know if i let this go on forever it will be bad news.
working? Feb 23, 07, 6:12 p.m.
who else is working tonight? post what you're working on here.
I'm designing a site for a video production company....(no not THAT kind of company you pervs!)
1st day Nov 15, 06, 9:52 a.m.
First day at my new gig! So awesome! Working in a studio in little italy near downtown. Just me and my boss (the web designer who hired me).
We're still working on getting everything set up but it rocks! She bought me a dell 24" LCD, XPS system, and she's going to order me a herman miller aeron chair!!! I kid you not!!
Pictures to come soon, but right now its kind of a mess in here.
Extra perk: boss lady said she would provide the red bull for me!!
Anyway, just had to share. Hope all other NT'rs are doing well out there.
I'm getting screwed Mar 1, 06, 8:41 a.m.
So I purposely started my new job on Dec. 1, thinking with the 3 month probation period my benefits would start on March 1.
I was walking around town thinking I was slick shit, but god what a cockhat move!! After asking the secretary about it for the past 2 weeks I find out today that I'm not eligible until April 1. Apparently once you become eligible for benefits you have to wait until the next month to start. Even if you start on the 1st!
I effectively screwed myself out of a full month of health insurance!! I could have just as easily started the job on Nov. 30 and been covered starting today. Now I'm stuck with another month paying $200 out of pocket for this COBRA crap. Awesomeness.
I know all you veterans are laughing cuz you know this shit already and this is child's play. But for everyone else..please remember to start jobs at the end of the month.
