Wind Farm Apr 22, 09, 1:31 p.m.
Anyone have any experience with living near wind turbines?
There's a five turbine wind farm being proposed for a ridge that is 3/4 of a mile from my house. Some or most of them will be in full view of my back yard.
I've heard that there's a constant kind of hum as well as some people saying that the shadow flicker (the moving shadows cast by the blades) can be very disconcerting.
Anyone have any first or second hand experience with this?
(Let it be known that i am usually a proponent of alternative energy sources)
Seatbelts Dec 23, 08, 11:41 a.m.
While i was in the post office the other day, my wife said she saw numerous people get into their cars and drive off without buckling up. i had been in an accident in the 10th grade that prompted me to never drive on the road without a seatbelt. Sometimes i even put it on without thinking when i'm moving it 10ft down my driveway or some other inconsequential distance. So the idea of not buckling up is foreign to me.
Hence, i wondered how many people here don't buckle up and if they have a rationale for it or if it's just that they never got into the habit.
Uncut Aug 28, 08, 11:49 a.m.
This was both a moral dilemma for me, as well as a topic that provides fodder for the 3rd grade commentary, so i figured i'd post.
My wife and i just visited a friend of mine in the hospital who just had a baby on Tue, via c-section. While we were there a resident came in with the consent form for the little boy's circumcision, which will happen tomorrow.
Both of my boys are uncut. My wife and i had made that decision after she had done research (she's qualified to be a birth educator). Besides the fact that it's diminishing the sensitivity of the penis and supposedly diminishing the amount of comfort that a woman experiences during intercourse, a circumcision is major surgery on a person who's less than a week old.
These are dear friends, so we both held our tongues, as ultimately it's a decision for their family. But it occurred to me that they may not know anything besides that's what was done to the dad and it's seemingly what everyone else does.
So, if you disagree with circumcision, would you have said anything? If you advocate or have no problem with it, why?

i'm so broke, i can't even afford to pay attention.
So, how big is your cardboard box?
Alien's Eye View Jul 18, 08, 6:27 a.m.
"NASA's Deep Impact spacecraft has created a video of the moon transiting (passing in front of) Earth as seen from the spacecraft's point of view 31 million miles away."

It's official. Hollywood's ability to create anything the mind can think up has made this amazing feat less impressive.
Bees Jul 16, 08, 11:46 a.m.
While i prefer Ben & Jerry's, Haagen-Daaz has a pretty cool site about "saving the bees". Not sure about the facts or science behind the mission, but i liked the site.

Prince V Radiohead May 30, 08, 12:53 p.m.
According to the AP:
"After word spread that Prince covered Radiohead's "Creep" at Coachella, the tens of thousands who couldn't be there ran to YouTube for a peek. Everyone was quickly denied -- even Radiohead."
Here's the article:

And no wonder he wants it blocked; his version bloes (watch it while you can)
New Starbucks Logo May 15, 08, 8:21 a.m.
It's more troubling to me that it's ugly as fuck than it is that the siren is bare-breasted. However, naturally, some are taking issue with that:

Guitar design May 7, 08, 8:09 p.m.
Was it lack of innovation or laziness on Gibson's part to come up with the reverse flying V? Not only is it not visually appealing (hence the posting here), but i can't imagine it's very playable. And they're asking $3000 for it to boot!
