Here it's illegal to drive without buckling up. Even in the backseat. Hell, they're there for a reason. I think if you don't do it or teach your kids you're an irresponsible asshole.

I won't drive until everyone buckles up. My friends give me all sorts of crap but I just don't understand their reasoning.

      and here :)sputnik22/3
That makes sense. As the driver, one probably feels more responsibility for the passengers.Jaline3/3

Unless you're in the back, I couldn't care less if you buckle up or not... your stupidity really.

in maryland you have to buckle up in the fornt or you will get a ticket.

even the passenger riding shotgun has to buckle up or you can get a ticket for his ignorance too.

yeah, most cars these days make it annoying not to, but i usually do anyway. it's easy enough. people must be well aware of the dangers, so the rationale against it is just playing the odds and being a gambler i suppose. i don't wear a bicycle helmet, and looking at the statistics, i'd just have to be really unlucky to suffer a head injury that a helmet would have prevented. driving is far more dangerous though.

My sister died in a car wreck in 1995, because she did not have her seat belt on. I am adamant about anyone in any car I'm in wearing their seat belts.

always buckle up unless I'm in a taxi for some reason.

    • because those drivers, while having a death wish, will never ever harm you.mg331/2
yeah, taxi drivers only harm the people outside of their cabsacescence2/2

wow... just was on the highway here west of st. louis... it's sleeting out...

... encountered a massive backup on the highway caused by 12 cars and 2 tractor trailers... there were two vehicles completely under one of the trailers and about 20 fireman working at getting the people out... and just a shitload of cars tossed about all over the place... some you could see entire roofs ripped open where they had just gotten people out...

    ... sobering shit.

    I do it by habit.

Once in a while I don't do it if I'm sitting in the back, squished between 3-4 people. They are also uncomfortable, but I use one 99% of the time.

i was in two accidents last year -- one much worse than the other. both times the car was totaled and both times the combination of seat belt and airbag saved my life.

I buckle up before I put my car into gear.

If I'm the passenger, I'm a little slower to realize that I'm not buckled. Not sure why that is.

    • I'm also really bad about not buckling when riding in the back seat. Absolutely no rationale for that.tymeframe1/2
Yeah, for some reason I ALWAYS remember when I'm in the front, but not the back.Jaline2/2
