portfolio website services

my uncle was just laid off from his creative director job. his background is in illustration, airbrush, and traditional painting, and that's what type of freelance work he'll be doing in the meantime to pay the bills until he can find another job (which might be a while in this economy). so, he needs a website to showcase his artwork and also some info on himself. what services are out there (preferably free) for him to easily create a portfolio website? he can pay a monthly fee, but nothing too expensive. thanks for any suggestions!

Any Thai speakers?

Does anyone know the Thai translation for "stutter" or "stuttering"? Like how some people stutter when they talk.

Japanese Girls and Flowers

In Japan do guys give girls flowers on dates? I'm pretty sure that's pretty cross-cultural, but who knows. I don't want to say "Your ovaries belong to me" or something by giving her flowers.

Freelancers

hopefully it's not frowned upon to look for freelancers in the public voice. i work at the interactive firm atlas mind creative (www.atlasmind.com) in los angeles. some projects are hitting pretty soon and we might need some help. i really want to get some good freelancers on file so if something comes up we can contact who best fits. i'm looking for people in l.a. for in-house jobs and also outsiders we can work with over the interwebs. so, if you're a kick ass flash or web designer, production artist, or programmer (php, actionscript, asp) I would really appreciate it if you could send me your info at the e-mail address in my QBN profile, or just in here. gracias.

Connecting OSX to Windows File Server

So we've been connecting to a Windows Vista file server without problems for a while. We upgraded a Mac laptop to Leopard recently, set the workgroup to the Windows server's workgroup, and everything was sharing just fine. Now today (3 or 4 days later) the Mac can't connect to the Windows server. It brings up a message that says "Connection Failed". We haven't changed the server setup or anything. Does anyone have any ideas on some things to try?

Liquid Plastic/Rubber?

Hey, I'm making a leather wallet and I need some type of trim for the outer edges that will keep stuff smooth and hold things in place. It needs to be strong, but flexible. I was thinking of dipping the edges in oil paint and just doing multiple coats, but I'm hoping there is some type of thick liquid rubber/plastic stuff that I can just dip the edges in that will dry relatively quickly and be nice and sturdy. Any ideas?

Borderless Printing

I want to print our letterhead borderless on standard plain inkjet paper. Does this depend on the printer or the paper? Judging from my printer's settings, it can print borderless on photo paper or high quality matte paper. I tried using the high quality matte paper setting and it used too much ink for plain inkjet paper, resulting in ink blots and whatnot. Any ideas? I'd rather not go to a print shop to do this...

Web-based Website Architecture App

I've found a few (like MindMeister) but they all pretty much suck for creating website architectures. I know there has to be some cool web 2.0 app out there (preferably with a free version) that's made for this sort of thing. Anyone know of any?
