So we've been connecting to a Windows Vista file server without problems for a while. We upgraded a Mac laptop to Leopard recently, set the workgroup to the Windows server's workgroup, and everything was sharing just fine. Now today (3 or 4 days later) the Mac can't connect to the Windows server. It brings up a message that says "Connection Failed". We haven't changed the server setup or anything. Does anyone have any ideas on some things to try?

Try taking Windows out of the equation, repair permissions, restart and you’re golden.

Did you downloaded all the system updates for OS X?

The folks here are generally very helpful, and you tend to get fewer sarcastic/silly remarks.
- The updates are important some of those fix samba issues (file sharing with windows)ernexbcn
- True, I set Software Update to check daily, and I never wait to install them.MrOneHundred

try turning file sharing OFF on the mac (if it's on)

you can also try to mount the share by hitting command-k in the finder and entering the windows machine's IP address

^ I just set my home network (MBP + 2 PCs ) this way last night after updating the mac. No problems.

keep file sharing on
make sure you click 'options' and check the box next to 'share files and folders using SMB'
and be sure to have your users enabled for each folder you are allowing access
its just better security measures now with Leopard

You've probably fixed this already but i have a win2k server at home for development and I've not had any problems with the Command-K way of doing it. However i set up Automator to connect to all the shares i need for an easy 1 click solution. Just make sure you set a 3-5 second delay between each connection to make sure there aren't any issues.
