Bootcamp vs Parallels Jan 29, 11, 12:46 a.m.
I need to run windows on a new mac, actually my friend needs to run windows on a new mac. I have not done this before and need some help. My friend is was in the middle of writing her doctorate when her PC died. Now she bought a new mac thinking she can run whatever she wants using windows on mac.
I've heard of it being done, but never needed to do it. Can you point me in the direction of what I would need. I know nothing of PC or windows....

itunes tv -> ipod help Jan 24, 11, 1:57 p.m.
My gf wants me to put tv shows downloaded from itunes onto her ipod nano so she can listen to them. Is this possible? What would I need to do?
It's an older nano so I don't think it plays videos.
The files are m4v. I'm sure I'll have to convert and unprotect them but does this even work? I've seen a few programs online that do this but do they actually remove the copy protection?
Does anyone do something like this?
fonts with nice ligatures Dec 14, 10, 1:11 a.m.

who has time to mash potatoes Nov 26, 10, 9:03 p.m.
Really?
I'm getting annoyed with consumerism. When will designers decide to stop trying to help sell us shit.
I can absolutely buy, peel, cut, boil, mash and eat my own damn potatoes. I do not, nor do I know anyone who does need to buy pre-cut, pre-peeled potatoes. Potatoes are tried and true.
Since when do people who wash their hands with soap care about touching the soap container? I can understand not wanting to touch the soap in a rest stop off the highway but 'they' are trying to convince people that we need a no-touch pump because there are germs on it.
Really?
I'm gonna wash my damn hands anyway.
In design class, one time, my teacher brought in some guy to talk about his award winning solution he came up with a for a children's shoe company. Are recent classes were sort of based around impact.
After he finished telling the class how awesome he was I asked him a question.
It was: "As an award winning company, recognized among peers and consumers alike, in a time of "going green", how do you influence your clients to go with a more consciously green, potentially "greener" solution. Example: Using printing companies with FSC certification.
I left design partly cause of the clients and partly because of selling shit we don't need.
I guess I'm a pessimist?
supplements for working out Nov 10, 10, 6:15 p.m.
There's a sale at Popeye's this weekend and I want to load up. I'm wondering what to get and what the kids are taking these days.
I want to gain weight and get stronger. I don't want to be able to bench a million pounds but it'd be nice to huck a few large rocks around...
A friend says I should be taking a 1000 calorie supplement... maybe I will though it seems like that would be hard on your organs...
I play squash 3-4 times a week, just started weight training again and work daily as a stone mason/landscape construction foreman. (Design is a hobby for me now..;)
Any tips would be sweet. Cheers

Good day to you all.

font help Jan 23, 10, 11:42 a.m.
Many of my font folders have AdobeFnt07.lst in them but no fonts.
I'm keeping most fonts off my machine on a separate drive. I use Extensis Suitcase X1 to manage fonts. I keep getting problems. For example, I'll start my machine, activate a font, open illy, do something with the font, then save then quit illy.
Now, next time I open the illy file, the font isn't activated because it says it's no longer linked in Suitcase. So then I double click the font in suitcase (the says missing font) and try and re link it. But it won't. I get to the folder and can't open the font.
I've checked lot's of the font folders have fonts in them like this (Baskerville BQ> BaskeBQBol, BaskeBQIta, and some on...)
But many more of my font folders just have adobeFnt07.list with nothing else in the folder.
Have I managed to delete my fonts somehow? Why won't Suitcase re-link the file? What am I doing wrong?
I was told that if you have tons of fonts that you should not keep them on your main hard drive because if the font gets corrupted it can screw up other system things do weird stuff starts to happen. Is this true? It seems easier to just load the fonts on the machine as you need them. Which reminds me, I've tried loading a font into a user folder but it won't show in illy or photoshop... WTF?
Sorry for the long post...

This is my grandfather Dib with his Spitfire in June 1944. I knew him as Dadda, a happy old man that loved my sister and I more than anything. He was told to quit drinking or he'd never see his grand kids again, so he did! I was told he was a heavy drinker from after the war which apparently most pilots either were flying or smashed. Anyway, I just found this passage referring to him as no "teetotaller"... (I had to look it up too: it means someone who does not drink)
p108
"...Some couldn't drink at all. At Northolt, Canadian Roland Dibnah, no teetotaller, found the tension so great even one jigger of liquor drove him vomiting to the washroom. His friend, Peter Boot, felt the same; after one nightmare force-landing amid sharp-pointed anti-invasion stakes, Boot was so angry when he met the defence expert who'd sited them that his fingers itched for a loaded revolver. Already their squadron, No. i R.A.F., felt that
all the strikes were against them: though they'd lost their gear in France, Air Ministry was still quibbling over the 60 kit replacement allowance due to each man."... ["Eagle Day" - Richard Collier 1966]
He was a great man and I'm so glad to have known him even though I was so young. It's pretty amazing that I'm able to read about him on the internet! I never thought to search him out until today...
As many who fought and fight in wars, he never fully recovered from the trauma. He died in February 1990 from old age.
He will always be remembered.
I'm pretty sure that's him flying but he could have taken them also since he was also a photographer and developed photos in his darkroom.
Take a moment to remember.
Peace

looking for that sound Oct 27, 09, 4:40 p.m.
Hey yo!
I'm really into Booka Shade and Junior Boys. I'm wondering if anyone else is into these two groups and has some suggestions for a good similar sound.
If you haven't checked out Chromeo, (http://www.chromeo.net) they're good for filling your Retro Electro Funk genre!
Suggest away!
an adobe question Oct 14, 09, 8:24 p.m.
all my programs just quit and will not start up again. clicking an icon initiates the startup page, file menu changes to illustrator, (or photoshop) then quits and gives me the 'send report to apple' log screen with options to reopen, close or report.
the cycle continues...
I've tried restarting, reinstalling, and unplugging all other peripherals all to no avail. nothing.
Help?
