UX links Jan 17, 13, 8:11 p.m.
Hey guys,
I'm looking for your favorite links to information about user experience. Looking for best practices and discussions.
Web Design Training Nov 12, 12, 2:45 p.m.
Hey QBN folks,
I'm looking for education sources that will get me up to date with web design best practices and processes. This needs to include topics such as usability, user experience, user interface design, and information design. Web development is not something I need in the education, but education on how the various development technologies (flash, javascript, php, MySQL) work and may influence design is something I'll need. I'm looking preferably for a course series that leads me through these topics in an organized way that builds upon itself. I don't know if it exists, but that's why I'm branching out to you guys for your input.
Is it possible? Oct 13, 12, 9:49 a.m.
What would be your development strategy for creating a menu like this?randysteward.com/misc/scree...
The learn more link has a roll over drop down menu attached.
If each hexagon could have a rollover effect that would be nice, but I can make concessions there if it makes the whole thing dramatically more simple to code.
Printing challenges Aug 2, 12, 8:26 a.m.
Hi QBN dudes,
I have a challenge, and I am needing to reach out beyond my normal resources here for information. (Also, thinking I should have done this a while ago).
We have a client that we have traditionally printed 4c+2PM/same. One of those colors in particular has shifted way to dark, then way to yellow ect. ect. It has not been associated any longer with a straight PMS color for at least the past 5 years (as long as I've known this client). And is a moving target of sorts.
This year we have been redesigning their materials, and with their conservative nature we haven't been able to move completely away from said frustrating color. It's also a core branding color for them. That being said, we were able to convince them to change it slightly, so now we have a PMS swatch associated with it, but it isn't a spot, it is a CMYK swatch, because there isn't an actual spot close enough. It is built out of only 2 of the 4 colors so we figured it would be easier to hit more consistently since the printers[1] have at least some reference to a swatch.
Now, we have moved to printing their pieces 4c/4c in all cases. Is this a horrible idea?
Presenting Designs Online Jun 25, 12, 1:56 p.m.
My client is in another state and I am needing to present designs. I was wondering what methods people here use to do such things. Flying out is unreasonable in this case. I can send a PDF and talk them through it on the phone, but it would be nice if I could lead/control the presentation more than that.
What I think exists:
An online service that Is a bit like a voice/video chat only instead of looking at someones goofy face on screen, I am sharing a PDF or slideshow of some sort. Ideally it has tools integrated that will allow me and the client to point certain things out or otherwise indicate things on the slides while discussing them.
Move into 3D Jun 16, 12, 12:43 p.m.
Hey guys,
I recently saw a post on QBN about C4 and it kicked this idea off in my mind. I'm thinking about integrating 3D with my print design skill set. I have zero experience developing 3D art, and I know there is a lot to it, but I have two questions.
1. Of the print designers here that work with 3D applications as well, is it worth moving in that direction? I'm thinking it will expand my options/flexibilty pretty greatly.
2. What is the industry standard software for people that want to make 3D art for primarily 2D applications. I've heard of MAYA and only recently C4, but will admit I haven't really begun searching. This is kind of a feeler while I begin that exploration.
Illustrator Plugins/technique Jun 14, 12, 12:10 p.m.
Hey guys, I'm trying to find a good way to bend text in Adobe Illustrator CS5. Not sure if there is something built in that I'm missing or an awesome plugin that does exactly what I want to do. Maybe a way to create two vectors and fit type between them?
Here is an image of what I'm trying to accomplish:
Thanks
