I've been asked to design a 32pp book [mainly image / drawing based] for a huge event. Great advertising for me. They have a minimal budget. It's an event that I really like anyway, so I'm willing to do a less expensive than normal job for them.

Including design, meetings and and litho print [newspaper / other similar lo-fi type publication], either BW / colour, what kind of ball park figure would you say? Based on the fact it'll be 'mates rates'.

Is there a way of retrieving an old blog post text from the database? If so, how?!

Transparent GIFs Dec 8, 11, 6:40 a.m.

I'm having a second edition of some books made and these little bastards have started to print with a grey background. No doubt it's my fault but what have I done wrong? Transparent gifs made in PS placed over an image in Indesign, exported as PDF and sent to print.

You can see more evidently on one, not so much on the other and on the third it looks fine. Any ideas?

I want to make this table [the one with the list in it] fixed column width, so for example the date width will be narrower than the title column.

I'm using indexhibit. I have tried

for the whole table but with no result, it always has a with of 100+%

Hello All

For what I do, I get resolution. However, looking at photocopiers and new printers I'm seeing a few variables I hope someone can help me understand.

My Canon printer at home they say prints at 'Photolab-quality 9600dpi and 1pl'

My scanner scans at 9600x9600dpi; 48 bit colour depth.

I'm looking at a photocopier that 'prints at a true 600 x 600 dpi'

What do these numbers mean?!
when it says 9600 x 9600 that's not 92160000dpi obviously, so what is it?

And the 'true' 600 x 600dpi - what's that?!

I'm after a printer that needs to be able to do the following - anything else is a bonus.
Mono
Duplex / double sided
A4
decent image repro

That's all.

I know laser is faster and the print will last longer generally but I'm wondering whether just to buy a few cheap inkjets as quality for images tends to be better, though the print isn't quite as flat.

Canon £100 inkjets print at 9600x2400 dpi
Copiers / lasers £600 at 1200dpi

Help or I'll African Mango or Ugg boot you.

Perhaps you're not fussed any more, again, we're interested. If that's the case then surely you should just shut the site down before it becomes remembered as that once really good site that became riddled with genital enhancement and ugg boots.

I want to set up an online drawing archive / forum for my students to test before it gets opened up to the public. What's best to use software wise? I wondered whether google sites would do it but I'm not sure it's powerful enough.

This is one of those things that get done most days on auto pilot. On Friday I'm giving a BASIC introduction on getting image files ready for print. Things like the diff between CMYK and RGB for example.
Is there anything you'd have wished you knew earlier that I should talk about?

I'm trying it, briefly. Seems to sync well between apple products, as expected. However the option to send from an alternate email address seems to have gone, making all outgoing mail from'...@me.com'. Seems a big feature to have removed IMO.

When I open the same PSD file in preview and PS the colours in preview look as though there is a semi transparent white layer over the top. PS is much darker / blacker. Is there a way of calibrating the two to look the same? How do you change previews colour profile?

Just announced. Small looking update but a fe important features. If you're into Ricoh it looks great IMO, focuses 2x as fast as the GRD3, which was already fast.
