    Anyone else have stories of getting duped by AI?

    I watched it happen to a friend of mine when he showed me a band he found on Spotify. I could immediately tell it was AI from the album art. I remember the look of disappointment when I told him, and I thought it would never happen to me.

    Then came last Friday. I was doom‑scrolling Instagram when a playlist popped up with a background track that was right up my alley. I checked the playlist, then the artist, and saw he had six tracks — all really good, all around two and a half minutes long. I felt like I’d heard the singer before but couldn’t find any details. I figured he was a new guy starting out, saw he had a ton of spins, and thought, “Cool, I’ll look forward to the full release.”

    Last night, one of the songs got stuck in my head, and I started thinking about all the weird little things: the spins, the short track lengths, the playlist stacking, the way more videos kept popping up using those songs as background audio. I finally thought, “Is this AI?” A quick Google search answered that question, and I felt ripped off and disappointed.

    I immediately hit up my homie to let him know — it got me too. Sorry for sending it to you on Friday.

      I listen to a lot of late night podcasts on spotify and I absolutely loathe waking up hours later to the tail-end of a winding path of recommended casts where two synthetics are enthusiastically engaging with one another about an otherwise mundane topic I'd started the journey on.

      Not sure how to pre-nix that shit.

      it means somewhere out there someone made music you like and AI scrapped it, scrambled it, fed it to you. and now the musician get no money and not even exposure.
