An old friend of mine landed a great gig rebuilding a legendary inn and restaurant in our home town, positioned to be the best in the county and then some. I believe they can pull it off after trying the food and seeing the place/concept. Anyways, I'll be designing their menus and leading their social presence.
During our meeting today we discussed typefaces, chef said that Ogg Roman was considered at one point but it was too rigid.
So they're looking for something like Americana I believe. Any recommendations?

Ogg certainly doesn't seem too rigid, compared to like Bodoni...
- ogg certainly looks much better to me. don't find it rigid at all, very elegant in my view.renderedred
- I agree. This is not a great start!canoe
- How is this beauty rigid?Gnash
- Perhaps they meant rigid as in, not very flexible? Maybe they see it as having only one voiceGnash
- Yes, I'm starting to interpret 'rigid' in less of a visual sense, but it may be smart to just hit em up real quickly for clarification...canoe
- Damn, he's looking for something more "feminine" - ouch... challenging.canoe
- Ogg hits that mark, too. This may be a case of first-choice-itisGnash
- This has a bit of that Americana feel. But dang, ogg is nice http://shinntype.com…Gnash
- These guys use ogg

- He’s a clientGnash
- oh, the chef IS the client, i misunderstood than :)renderedred
- *then, of courserenderedred
- He's kinda the client, I mean, it's a multi million dollar hotel from 1926, so I'll give them their version, and an agency version...canoe
- which knowing that I've been able to keep my mouth shut and during the prez I'll explain the decisions on the agency verjcanoe

As it turns out Ogg is the hotel's primary typeface. The restaurant is named differently (same ownership).
So it makes sense to not use Ogg, but just branding purposes, not because of the form of the typeface... we'll see what happens.
He's also providing drawings of herbs - I guess chefs gotta chef everything.
- This makes sense (about the type - god help you with the other stuff)Gnash
- Although, since he’s bringing illustrations, next meeting bring your veal jus recipeGnash
- slap a steak on his desk, bang chef perfectly cookedcanoe
- your life must be interesting @canoe, from chef steve to this? drawings of herbs? please update on progress ;)renderedred
- I'm presenting tomorrow, I'll share. That chef Steve story is a good one... who's buying the beer?canoe
- Good luck!Gnash

Research is just as fun as the work...
For the Speakeasy, they have a Jack Handy quote on the back page of the menu.
I'm not feeling it - for starters, he is still alive, and second, the quote is about drinking not about the convictions of being a bootlegger, rumrunner, underground bartender type.
Although I'm not using the following as a candidate for the menu, it seems to ring a bell under Trump....
"Why don't they pass a constitutional amendment prohibiting anybody from learning anything? If it works as well as prohibition did, in five years Americans would be the smartest race of people on Earth."

While searching for the chef's "more feminine than Ogg" typeface...
