Holy. Fucking. Shit.
Probably the most visually stunning film I’ve ever seen, every frame’s a work of art.
Visually and technically I’d say it’s this generations blade runner or Akira.
It’s also one of the trippiest movies ever and I was totally sober lol
Something cool i saw on twitter:
"when framing through released clips I noticed that lots of the shots on 2's have the held frame move with the camera...crazy awesome. Creates this unique "animated on cell" type feeling. Mind blown! #animation"
Check the link to see the effect in action.. basically making computer animation feel more traditional i think.
Story was pretty decent as well. Most characters were great. Some fell to cliché but overall really enjoyed it.
Most importantly my kid and his mate were enthralled and really taken in by it. Normally after a film I have to have a 'talk' about some of the content but our talks were only positive, so they did a great job.
loved the father son relationship, was great to that, you don't normally get that these days. Genders/races were done correctly and not being self righteous, ie real world no one cares. annoying parts though (said as I hate stereotyping)
Shaders were simply incredible. FX first class and the animation was probably some of the best America has ever produced. Colour choices were incredibly hard to manage in a pipeline and worked really well so their brave choice paid off massively. Cameras were really fun as was the post effects.
Very bold film for a main stream film. Quite refreshing, sat in, sat back and laughed a lot. What films should be IMAO.
I read that it took them one year to come up with a 10 second look that they liked, then they ran with it. Started with one animator, then ballooned to 60 then finally 140 animators!
Just loved the maticulous work, craft and bold experimentation that went into it, it’s refreshing these days where most movies look like they’re just dialing it in.
I’d agree with all comments. Really brilliantly done, tremendous visuals. The end credits are worth the price of admission in themselves. I sat opened mouthed wondering at the imagination required to create those visuals. The story is a bit blah, but also very self deprecating and in the end it really doesn’t matter, the overall film just blew me away
Need to check it in the cinema now. Sounds exciting!
Enjoyed every single second of it.
This was a trip. 10/10.
Went yesterday, perfectly crafted, funny, dramatic, great music esp use of Apache. Visual stunner. A+
My boys loved it.
Absolutely loved/blown away that they referenced Bill Sienkiewicz's Kingpin ... to finally see his artwork/style on the big screen ... fuck yes.
Saw it yesterday with the kids - expected yet another shitty superhero movie (which Im so fucking bored of) all be it animated this time - but agree with previous comments - was blown away by its visual style and direction, was one of the best eye candy experiences in a long time and nice to see something different for once.
Took my 3 and 7-year-old to see it. It was pretty intense for young kids. They both jumped out of their seats a few times.
The animation was amazing but the storyline was was hard to follow and Spider Pig, AKA Peter Porker, was funny but seemed way out of place.
Hope they have a How-it-was-made on the Blu Ray
Finally got to see it tonight with an old mate. Some of the scenes were so nuts with the style changes, loved the Bill Sienkiewicz nods and the size of the Kingpin.
Visually it was a feast for the eyeballs, I hope it leads to more experimentation.
End titles were bonus too.
Wonder who did the animation.
Pango, here's a vid about the production, it says there were 177 animators on the project at one point, more than double for a usual animation.
Alberto Mielgo also worked with a team for a year to create 1 minute of test footage, but fell out with Sony, it's a shame he couldn't have worked on it til the end, even though his fingerprints are all over the final movie.
You can see some of his early concepts here https://www.instagram.com/albert…
Jesus that was intense.
Wished I was on acid
Instead I stupidly went with a mild headache instead.
Not a good idea.
Fucking amazing tho.
- Visually it’s like getting skull fucked by a machinegunautoflavour
- hahh, skipped yesterday because my head was killing me. i think i made the right choice, however now i'm the asshole who missed a great moviested
- so i think i'm going to leave early today and go alone :)sted
- its so good.. but yep, its a bit like Enter the Void was smashed into a Spiderman movie at high speedautoflavour
- My mate said he wished he'd went to see it on acid too. Reckon with 3d glasses it would be good too.PhanLo
Watched this last night. As other have said, it's fucking bananas. So good. Thanks for sharing, PhanLo.
Must see in theatres. I typically haaaate superhero films, but this is a real spectacle. Beautiful.
