Thoughts?
I've seen it yesterday and it's a 6,5/10 for me.
It was okay. Yeah. "The Shining" sequence was the tits, though.
And, if you don't watch Half in the Bag, you're missing out. I love these guys:

I took my 13yr old at the weekend and he LOVED it
but he didn't get a lot of the references, The Shining bit
was excellent though - I'd go so far as to give it 7/10

8/10 for me loved it and got lost in the movie. had some genuine big smiles on my face at several points.
just annoyed it diverted from the books so much
thought art3mis's avatar would bug me being so exaggerated but it grew on me
plus not enough gundam and no supidaman (guess they couldn't get the rights)

Saw it this weekend with my boys 12 and 15.
For me it felt as though the nostalgia fought a little with the narrative and i found myself distracted by the incredible amount of childhood/teen references being hurled at me. It's certainly not a Spielberg classic but well worth the price of a cinema ticket. I need to see it again.
The bonus was the amount Birmingham locations that were included. So much so I took the kids round the Jewellery Qtr and Digbeth to geek out.
Double Bonus, We then explored one of the abandoned buildings off Fazely St.
Double, Double Bonus, the seats at the newly refurbished Odeon Luxe at Five ways are fucking awesome.Film 6.5/10, Seating 10/10, Urban Exploring 8/10

Was pretty damn good. Loved all the easter eggs. The action scenes were A+. Though the love story moments were really awful and cheeseball, but kinda gelled with the dorky fun style of it.
One thing - hoping Speliberg starts working with DP's other than Janusz Kamiński. Hard to explain... though his films all have had a certain stale and claustrophobic vibe ever since they started to work together.
Not a speilberg masterpiece or anything, but still a solid popcorn film. Solid 7/10

It was good, not amazing... the Shining scene was great, and the Gundam scene esp!! Felt too orchestrated at times, wanted it to be grittier. The end scene was so formula cheese imo, there are hundreds of you filthy guys all amped up and you keep a perfect 20ft distance from the guy allowing him a clear path to murder your teenage saviour b/c he’s grumpy and holding a pistol? Go team!

Does Spielberg still have the goods? Or was this a cash grab?

I read the book last year. Wondering if the movie does it justice, or just ruins the already mediocre story. Maybe it's worth seeing just for the visuals.
- just for the visuals.sted
- Yup. Visuals maybe. Disappointed for sure.monospaced

I recommend it. Good message, good for kids and adults. Ending was pretty banding. Like a Scooby Doo caper.

Saw this yesterday, and am comparing to the book. While reading this book, I was constantly eye rolling at the amateur storytelling, character building and dialogue; the author pretty much treated the reader like a moron with short term memory loss. It almost ruined a good story, but it didn’t and it was a hit as a result. When I heard Spielberg was doing this, I had high hopes that he would find the nuggets of gold and iron out the issues. Nope.
I noticed the author was responsible for the screenplay too. Not a great move there, I don’t think. Fun to watch, especially in IMAX 3D, but this movie isn’t going to have any lasting effect, and won’t be a high point for Spielberg. It’s just not that good, and despite the SFX, it simply didn’t improve on the book. They even removed a ton of the relevant story and I assume many viewers had a major WTF moment at the end when everyone’s at the castle
For some reason.Pass. Watch it on cable or rent, maybe.
