There's plenty of good to say about China - their totalitarian set up means they can push reforms and engineer mass solutions in a way that 'western' countries can't begin to match (compare the roll out of high speed rail in China against HS2 in the UK or the the very-much-not- high-speed rail in the states).
Most solar power comes from China in one way or another due to their massive manufacturing capacity (and, admittedly, their fucking up the market for foreign competitors a few years ago).
I'm very interested in what they're doing to fix environmental problems over there - Google 'China Dedesertification' to see the efforts they're putting in to fighting back against envirnonmental degradation. The techniques used will eventually be rolled out across Northern Africa and perhaps the middle east eventually too.
eg.
It's very easy to pick up on all their failings, but that tends to be done through envious and dismissive Western lens - the fact is that they have over a Billion people that they've pulled out of third world status in less than half of our lifetimes. Their emissions and environmental damage is high, but that's because we here in the West off-loaded our problems to them.
Per capita, they're still way behind the US, for example, which has regregious levels of impact given their population is a third the size of China's.
The near-future is China's, as was the not so distant past - our ridicule and fear says more about us than their right to determine and develop their fate.
- it's not all rosy, of course - but then it's hardly fields of sweet peach pussy here in the west either.Nairn
- But USA propped up China after WW2 and the damage Japan caused.robotron3k

- A country with a one-party political system. They are the antithesis of free western thinking, exporting their brand authoritarianism wherever they can.hotroddy

New CFC-11 emissions identified from China
In a new study in Nature, we show that emissions of the banned ozone depleting substance, CFC-11, have increased from eastern China since 2013. Our findings, based on analysis of data from the South Korean AGAGE station at Gosan and Japanese NIES station on Hateruma island, suggests that we have located a major fraction of the global emissions rise identified last year.
The implications of this finding are discussed in our article written for The Conversation, and a University of Bristol news item.]

Protestors point lasers at police to prevent facial recognition from Chinese government
