I am wanting to make a photo book using iphoto on my mac, but I am thoroughly confused about how photos work.

I take tons of photos on my iphone, back them up to dropbox. How the heck to I get all of my photos into iphoto? I have the photo app open, at the bottom it says uploading 2000 photos which is going insanely slow. Looks like it will take all day. I dont even know where its uploading them to.

I go into iphoto, theres nothing in the last import section. I click on photos, and only some of my photos are in this photo stream. WTF is all of this? They couldnt have possibly made this any less intuitive if they tried. I am in 2 different apps, my photos exist in multiple places. Im so lost right now.

I should take this step by step. Im in the photo app. It says its uploading about 2000 photos. Where are they coming from and where are they uploading to? I definitely do not have 2000 photos on my iphone. Is it pulling them from my dropbox?

    • if your phone is connected to the computer it's grabbing the pics from your phoneGnash
    • It may also be grabbing them from dropbox -- i remember a pop-up when I installed dropbox that i aid 'no' to. It may have had something to do with...Gnash

I think you need to use iCloud photo. That syncs them right into Photos on your Mac. I started doing that not long ago, and it's so much easier to get them on the computer. Takes a while, but pretty flawless.

Plus, if you keep a ton of photos on the phone, it will manage the size by storing the hi-res in the cloud, and sample down the quality on the phone to save space.

    • i did not know that cloud kept the highres and distributed lowres. that's pretty greatGnash
    • I think it even does that for video; I've had some that take a bit to load depending on connection.mg33
    • does it up load all the photos? can you specify folders that are strictly archive and leave on cloud?Gnash

iPhoto is old, don't use it. Photos is the replacement.
