    saw this posted on LinkedIn:

"Imagine you have some important guests around for dinner. You spend weeks trying to liaise schedules and planning what you're going to cook, buy the best ingredients, put out your fancy cutlery, and spend a day preparing and cooking everything. The guests finally arrive and everything is ready...only you can't speak to them, and you can't eat anything.

Now replace weeks with 7 years, tens of billions of dollars, massive upgrades in infrastructure/facilities, and the worlds best athletes from all over the world. With the announcement by Japan for a state of emergency throughout the Olympics, and complete abolition of spectators at events, there is quite literally no benefit to the people of Japan for hosting the Olympics - it may as well have been hosted on the moon.

From a PR and reputation point of view, it has led to even more global media scrutiny to the deteriorating situation in Japan, with the government failing to contain the virus due to lax lockdown rules, low vaccination rates, and their disastrous GoToEat/Travel campaigns. Then there is the >80% of the population who are against the Olympics, including large corporate sponsors and the doctors union of Japan (https://lnkd.in/gqKCHWN). Not to mention the reported 10,000 local volunteers who have withdrawn.

There will be no influx of tourists (perhaps to the relief of many Japanese) and virtually no revenue generated from the Games that goes back to Japan. The IOC is funded via 73% from broadcasting and a further 18% from sponsorship, which is why they so desperately want the Games to be held at all costs.

Make no mistake: it is the IOC calling the shots. Japan has been reduced to being held hostage on its own soil - a mere puppet on strings flapping in the breeze"
