the rotatey flash logo stuff was usually done with swift3d

Usually made in 3D Studio Max or some other animation program and then exported out as a GIF.
Not Swift3D, although it could do similar things, was mainly for 3D vectors for Flash. Swift3D came out well after all of that stuff was going on (like 2001), and Swift3D was for Flash mainly (but imported 3DS files from Studiomax). You'd model in 3DS, then import into Swift to export as vector. Or you 'could' model in Swift but it was much easier to do that in Studio.

Yeah, I was thinking 3d max. Swift 3d can't make a flag like that.

I remember a program for Windows - this was 15+ years ago - that was only for making 3D text. You type in your word(s), choose a typeface, add effects - bevel etc. then apply an animation. You could output to .gif or .avi - but i'll be fucked if I can recall the name - Xara3D maybe? Is that really that old?
