Hi All -
I'm in need of an art director to work on a short film. This is expenses paid only, but you'd be working on a 1960s heist film based on Peter Scott, London's most notorious cat burglar.
We are based in Beaconsfield and London and need to have a leader work under our production designer and direct a team of 6 art assistants. It would mean coordinating the look of a few locations and our main stage set build - and also overseeing some costume aspects - though we have someone on board as a costume person.
We shoot July 6th through the 13th, but we'd need you for prep. Again, before people jump all over the unpaid work aspect of this, it's a student production at a prestigious film school, we ask everyone to work at reduced rates. The benefits are having great portfolio pieces, exposure at international film festivals, and great footage which you could potentially use for your reel. We have a couple relatively big names attached to work with us, and even the stunt rigger and performer from Bond and Inception.
If you are interested, drop me a line a sam [at] sam-bank.com
Thanks!

Yeah, yeah. Let's not use this thread to stir up the old debate again.
I understand what I'm asking for, but to be fair, a of our films went on to win a BAFTA and be nominated for an Oscar last year. We also had two films in competition at Cannes this summer.
Our art director dropped out due to scheduling issues with another project.
- I'll come if you pay me the ticket,

You guys presumably went to art school. This is a graduate film school. Not a commercial studio. No one makes money on our films, not even the school.
- Surely the films are not ALL art, and thereore shouldn't they also be commercially viable?Morning_star

cut the guy some slack. sounds like a great opportunity for someone starting out to get some decent screen credits.
As a graphic designer you can fake up pretty much anything to show your skills for free. one cannot do that as a newbie production designer / art director -- especially with the kind of prod. values BANK is offering.
good luck with the film, BANK

What does an art director do exactly? Is there a designer or is the art director also designing?

I may be interested if there's a production design credit attached.
