Well I got scared and ended up getting the next model up lol. Im on it now, really nice. But how do you turn the screen off without turning the computer off? That possible on iMacs?
- control shift eject. figured it outCygnusZero4
- I bind it to the top right corner for convenience sakekalkal
- bind what?CygnusZero4
- Sleep. You can also touch the power button once. Go to energy settings to set sleep.monospaced

- Hot corners*set

When I go to log into my imac, say after it was asleep, is it possible to change my username somewhere? Looked around and cant find it.

you have to turn on fast user switching

Man I cant find anything in Yosemite. Dont know where my home folder is, dont know where to find the itunes folder so I can copy my music over...
- Home folder same as always => /Users/<your username>spmitch
- Your home folder? That's your user. Your iTunes library is managed via iTunes, not folders.monospaced

i have a 2010 imac and i can run everything you listed above.. so.. yes..
- CygnusZero40
Yeah I mean Im not going to be playing videogames on this thing. If that were the case then yeah I would go for a different model, but I have an xbox one for that. I just need a decent computer that can run some of the design apps that I use, and I wasnt too worried about it. They worked on my 2007 base model macbook so I figured they have to run on this machine that came out 7 years later, just wasnt sure if the graphics card was a total POS and am going to regret this in a couple years. It should be fine though.

Might be best to go to the mid-level with Iris Pro graphics, double storage, and beefier CPU for $200 more.

iMac w/ After Effects = fuck no
unless your doing very very basic stuff, just keep in mind, if you open up your client base to AE projects, you might have to turn down projects not based on your skill set but on what your system can handle.your main hickup with AE on iMac will be your video card.

- i do more compositing than animation these days so for my case, i cant haz imacmoldero
- though i wish i could because this mac pro is clunky as fuckmoldero

great timing here. my 2009 mac is on it's last leg and i'm looking to upgrade.
to build off of the specs above. will the imac be fast enough to run:
-countless hours of yo gabba gabba videos
-take 600 random clicks and smashes per minute from a 3 year olds hands
- handle 500 open tabs because no one in the house understands tabs in browsers
- power 40 youtube videos running in 40 windows at once
- dorkKn1ght0
The suckiest part is being hobbled by the video card.
- CygnusZero40
Is this video card a total piece of shit? Its 2015, it cant be that awful can it? I was doing animation work on my 2007 macbook with a gig of ram.
- "A" gig? damn, that must of suckedmoldero
- It worked. So 8gb in this and a moderb video card, it hard to be alright for what I do.CygnusZero4
- For games? Of course not, but for logic and AE, it must be fine for that.CygnusZero4
- Believe it or not, there was a time when a gig of ram was a LOT, and AE existed then. lolCygnusZero4
- sweet!moldero

Shit, I was doing AE work on a PC in 2002 with like half a gig of ram and a video card that couldnt run Call of Duty 1 at the time, so I have to believe this thing can handle what I do.
