So what's the go...are they becoming a bit old hat? If you have a site with a bunch of sub pages in each section, are they still a good way to go as far as navigation is concerned?
depends, I hate that most news sites have dropped them altogether
don't underestimate current user abilities with a mouse behind a laptop or desktop anymore I guess, I would use em for big structured sites with broad subsections with lander pages etc anytime still
Clients *always* ask for them. But they're less effective now, especially when you start considering touch devices where you don't have the ability to hover.
drop down menu on iPad doesn't bother me. The hover might not work but it appears once you touch it. The new trendy side slide menus/ uand hamburger menu are all over glorified drop down menus.
They all make you do another step to access hidden content.
What bothers is a small navigation where you have to pinch and zoom to access it.
