Need some help.
I recently jumped ship and started working for a company that only hires freelancers, which allows me to do smaller jobs while paying the bills through this larger paying client.
This client gives me work, but acts like I am available all day to him. This causes me to work basically all day, sometimes weekends, miss dinners.
Is this sort of schedule normal for freelancing?

And you have worked to communicate, clarify or establish guidelines? When clients push too much, I push back a little. Usually it's fine if done in a polite, and courteous manner.

Freelance can certainly be like that. But remember, it's not your client that acts like you're available, you make yourself available. Clients will always push as far as you let them push.

Are you working from home? Can't you set hours?
- I am working from home, but he calls me at his whim cause he is in meetings all dayKnuckleberry
- Setting hours is what I am going to do, once I am back from vacation (starting tomorrow)Knuckleberry
- you don't really need to announce official hours. If he calls after six, let it go to machine. Ring him back in morning.Gnash
- ... the morning. Same for email. Soon he'll get the idea.Gnash
