this round-up of the HOPE conference (for hackers) breaks down the Snowden address and some other stuff.

I found this interesting:
"“I’m not a fan of Edward Snowden,” Steve Rambam, a private investigator who works in finding lost people and fugitives, told the crowd at a panel that evening. “But if you’re worried about the federal government... they outsource their privacy invasion to private companies.”He showed slide after slide of the privacy invasions practiced by private companies like Google (“Google does whatever the hell it wants. It is an avaricious, rapacious, capitalist company of the kind that hasn’t existed since the beginning of the railroad.”) and Facebook (“Facebook doesn’t like you. Facebook doesn’t care about you. Facebook has contempt for you.”).
“If you’re upset about NSA metadata,” Rambam said, “you should be insane about Google, Facebook, and Twitter.” He kept emphasizing that most of the data about each of us in the world is there because we have volunteered it."

and on a similar note, what happened to our recent semi-conspiratorial Facebook thread from a couple of weeks ago? I couldn't find that thread to update. anyone?

but you can't carry a gun against Google and Facebook, certainly can't call them Hitlers or socialists. So good points, I'll have a read, but there won't be a 'movement' against 'private' business.

^^ not true. Refusal to participate would make a huge impact. Unlike the government, they can't hold you at gunpoint.

my take away was that the gov could circumvent the Constitution by simply hijacking private business to do their dirty work. an interesting work around.

Steve Rambam's 2.5hr talk at Hope. Give it 10 minutes and decide if you want to watch more. I thought it was awesome:
"1 out of every 5 minutes you spend online, you spend on Facebook", FB building Shadow Profiles on non-members, FB and Google save your drafts (all keystrokes). Panopticlick. Social Engineering. De-Anonymization. Forensic Linguistics.
Lots of great "tinfoil" to chew on. Holy Hell.
