So you have a discussion with a potential client wanting your services for a work-for-hire rate. You come to terms on things, agree on a dollar value for the hourly rate you will charge for the work and everything is all good and the client says they'll send the contract. It takes a few weeks to get things sorted on their end but when the contract finally comes, the hourly rate is a little higher than what you originally discussed.
Do you:
a) assume its because thats what they had in mind to pay and therefore thats what they put down. never mention it again.
2) contact them and say that you agreed on a lower rate, silly goose pay me less money.
x) smoke week, get paranoid, think it's a test of character and hit qbn up for advice on how to proceed.Interested in what you guys think. Im opting for #2 my wife thinks im silly and should assume #a....

"a" unless you want to negotiate a lower rate
which seems like an obvious no

well dudes, i was honest. I straight up said - i know we discussed the range, but we did eventually decide on a number and it was X. Looks like you put Y on the contract and i just wanted to make sure that wasnt a typo... Worked out in the end. They said it wasn't a typo / was worth it... warm fuzzies all around.
the way I thought about it, i was expecting the contract to say X so even if it turned out it was dropped back to X, i would have at least scored honesty points.. if not stupidity points. Looking forward to long term shit here, so I think it's all good in the end.

Now you know to charge Y next time ;-)
I'd have done the same thing. Integrity (and honesty) is lacking in today's world. My bet is that it comes back to you ten fold, both in your client's enthusiasm, but also in their referrals.
- yeah the agreed rate was already negotiated below my normal rate, so anything to bring it closer helped. :)mantrakid

Is it a big difference? Always do the right thing.
