I've never been any of these places but am planning a trip.

Jamaica, Turks and Caicos, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, St. Lucia, etc. Any reason to pick one over the other? Is it all about your hotel / resort?

I've only spent a day in Grand Turk and not been to any of the other places. When we were planning our wedding in 2012 we looked a lot at St. Lucia and Dominica. Some really cool tree house type places, kind of rustic and totally relaxing in both.

Check out this place in St. Lucia called Jade Mountain. Looks like a set from Star Wars:

    It's called Jade Mountain: http://www.jademountain.com

I imagine we will go there within the next 5 - 10 years for an anniversary or something. Place looks absolutely awesome, and the rooms are open on one side to the outdoor air.

I took a cruise and went to all those islands. Just saying... :)

I was born in Puerto Rico but live in the US. My next trip to the Caribbean will be a visit to as many islands as possible. So many diverse cultures, foods and landscapes to explore. I say do a cruise or plan your trip around visiting a few islands.

The only time I was ever mugged in my entire life was on Turks and Caicos. Guy stuck a gun right to my fucking head. Then, two minutes later, the police came by, and I went out in the road to flag them down. Fuckers wouldn't even stop, even though I was hurt, and obviously a tourist.

I've been around in the Caribbean a bit, and I would go to the British Virgin Islands, Cayman Brac, or Bonaire again. They were all equally wonderful--in slightly different ways. Spectacular snorkeling, diving, and swimming. Acres and acres of spectacular beaches. Incredible weather. Rather boring food at all of them; absolutely everything seems to come out of a can. Plenty to drink. Not very friendly people, generally. But, at the resorts you're with tourists from all over North and South America, and they're generally friendly and fun to party with.

    • And that's living all my life in and around Detroit! I go to paradise and I nearly get killed!boobs

Barbados is my favorite of any Caribbean island I've been to. Very friendly people with an English past, so they are kinda proper and conservative. You probably won't find any topless chicks at the beach. :)

Others I've been to are USVI, Bahamas, Antigua. St. Thomas was alright, St. John was very cool and tiny, Bahamas was nice, people in Antigua were kinda rude and the streets seemed kinda sketchy at night.
