Who came up with the idea that people should put their "job objective" on their resume?
Does anyone here think it's a good idea for the design field?
I received two today from recent grads whose "goal" is to utilize their creative skills and work in a enriching environment blah blah. Isn't that obvious?

I've never included an objective on my resume and I can't imagine it convinces a potential employer to hire someone.

Objectives are stupid, seriously. Unless you're being funny, it's probably something that 11,000 people already wrote. "To obtain a position doing this and that and to be a good team member, and uh", well no shit.
Objective: To get a fuckin job yo so I can buy more weeeed. Yoooo << There ya go

Are they helpful in other fields like science and applicants have a specific focus? Could be helpful if you have a real objective other than "getting a job"?

I skipped it for years, but I've put it back on the latest version of my CV I did, along with a sort of profile summary.
Well-worded, it should give an employer a clear idea of what it is you want, and what you bring in return. Many people can't be tossed to read a covering note, so this sort of objective/profile statement at the top of the CV helps compensate for that.
- Sounds like a Bio more than anything else.omahadesigns
- Not so much a bio as it is a sort of overview of your key strengths, before they go on to read your work history, awards, education, etcContinuity

I used to put it,
then contacted a recruiter who told me to drop it,
now thinking about it it's kinda stupid to have put it in the first place

i have an intro statement, but never an objective for the specific job i'm applying to. just a quick summary you couldn't glean from the job history.

I used to put my skillset in a few words on top of it to give the viewer a very rough overview, like "I design websites and write html/css/js-code"
Some said it was very helpful.
