I have been offered a short term (5 days) contract on a £225 per day rate. I'm not planning to freelance much longer, so don't want the cost/hassle of setting up a proper company, so I usually go paye.. but this time it has to be an umbrella/ltd.
Advice from anyone in the uk?

Take home from ParasolGroup - They take a fixed fee of £35 per week. My experience so far has been good (though I haven't been paid yet).
I got price quotes from a few other places and some were a bit cheaper (or would pricematch) but ParasolGroup were vouched for on QBn and I found their customer service pre-signup the most helpful.

Is this work for BBC or one of its preferred-suppliers by any chance, Projectile?

Oh, and you should come to SMR this weekend for the long-term roles.

I don't understand any of this stuff.
I keep a list of the jobs I do, I then bill for those jobs and I then fill out my tax return... why do people use umbrella companies? what on earth does it help with and why would you pay money for it?
Cheers for any insight, I am utterly clueless as to their worth.
- It's often as basic as this - some companies won't deal direct with freelancers.detritus

@chossy, probably because they need to cover their asses and know that we definitely will declare.
