Looking for articles on "why design is important", specifically when speaking to a client and they are talking about ROI and why somebody should consider design from he beginning (strategy) of every project.

Because from a product/service standpoint, there is no such thing as a business decision that isn't also a design decision. Any client that wants to engage on a human level understands this, since design is about human parameters.
