Does anyone know a simple way of doing this in illustrator without going manual?
If I use paths (eg, -4mm) it still messes up on the bends...
What I mean is like in the word "BEER" at the top of this website... http://craftbeerlondon.bluecrowm…

To get that level of perfection, you can't. You need to get it right manually. Otherwise, outline font + set stroke to inside. Or offset path negative value.

1. Search myfonts for outline fonts
2. Download and install
3. Type in illustrator
4. ???
5. Profit

dude, i've done this a million times, and there really isn't a quick way to do it. offset path will work sometimes, but usually has some issues. i usually set the font to outline... then just do it with math. can be tricky, depending on the font.

get the Jurassic Park font and be done with it.

Thanks for the tips guys!
I sorted it using a thin font form Lost Type Co-op and offsetting the path then tweaked it a bit manually. It didn't need to be perfect as I'm hand painting over the top of it anyway.
