Loading Indicator for RSS

Got something I'm working on updating on my site that loads six external RSS feeds into a single page, each with an image and potentially a large image or two.
The feeds have an adjustable cache time that can be set, but there's occasionally a serious lag before any of the page loads/appears due to the feeds.
Anyone know of a tool, code, WP plugin, etc that I could apply to each feed to show a loading indicator and also ensure the page loads first, then the feeds progressively as the content loads? I'm sure there's something out there, just not sure what to search for.
The feeds display using the HungryFeed WP plugin - managed in short codes, and the new version I'm working on will have the shortcodes in the php template, if that helps you suggest something.
