Fingerprint scanner compromised.
- Oh. Continuity's already posted much the same in the ios7 thread.detritus
- ... germans create artificial fingerprint from 1200dpi image of a fingerprint. this is hardly newsworthy.kingsteven
- Easy as pie... : /chossy
- Actually, it is newsworthy given the context Apple's given for its security and how easy it is to do...detritus
- ..I have a laser engraver capable of 1200dpi output which I rent to people - any of whom could fake a fingerprint.detritus
- So, yes - if a solution is billed as being nigh-on perfect, it's worth pointing out where it isn't.detritus
- Also, why point this out given how much unnewsworthy stuff is in here, unless you have some personal point to score?detritus
- You want a badge?
An orange ribbon?
A small cake with your name on?detritus - (you can only pick one)detritus
- you can't have a badge and eat a cake tooraf
- "if a solution is billed as being nigh-on perfect"... where?kingsteven
- there are prizes for hacking the sensor and lifting a fingerprint and using it to unlock a phone... this is neither.kingsteven
- also, the non newsworthy thing was in reference to how much coverage this is getting... not you posting it here.kingsteven
- the only 'personal point' i have for you detritus is in me trooserskingsteven
- haha, yaay!detritus

I don't get the fuss about the government gaining access to your fingerprint. In Portugal, they have it already for the entire population, it is tied to the person ID card (CC - Citizen's Card). Probably a lot of other EU countries have it too. I think it would be far easier to gain access to my fingerprints hacking the governemnt or the CC card than hacking an iPhone...
- government CAN'T access your fingerprintmonospaced
- I know it can't mono, but the discussion in the interwebz revolves around that... In Portugal they already have it..ESKEMA
- so it seems pointless to me, and don't understand what the fuss is.ESKEMA
- its called civil liberties!utopian

How much do you pay for your phone services? It seems to me that the prices in the US are fucking through the roof crazy...
I pay 20€ a month, which gives me unlimited texting to any portuguese mobile number, 250 calling minutes and 1GB of internet access (3G / 4G). If I exceed that, the costs are not that high either..
How much is your mobile bill per month?
- €10-20. Most of my friends have the same provider, so I call/textthem for free. No other calls incl. 3000 texts, 3GB data.lnu
- And since most of my friends and fa,ily have iPhones, I use about 2-3 of the 3000 free text msg's.lnu
- @Inu in Sweden?ESKEMA
- Yuplnu
- HAHAHHAAHAHHAHA you think US price is crazy.... T_Tpango
- 120 USDutopian

I pay ATT about $150 for unlimited everything. That includes insurance (why I keep paying that I don't know) for my phone.
Yup, ridiculous.
That's US pricing.
- that is insanekingsteven
- that shit cray! and you people complain about the devices prices?ESKEMA
- I pay $75 USDmonospaced
- £99 + £37p/m (including insurance) & thought mine was bad.kingsteven
- actually king, yours is the most expmonospaced
- naw, the 99 was one off... works out about $65 tho, which is higher than i thought...kingsteven
- I pay $90. Thought mine was bad, but urs is ridiculous.fyoucher1

9million iPhones sold this weekend. New record. Stock up $20+
F'in' insane, imho. I looked at them and I like the lightness compared to my 4S, but beyond that I can't tell the difference. If you give me a Moto X, which feels really nice to hold, w/ a different operating system I'd buy (can't stand how Android looks...yet)
Better sell Mono, once that hack shows that all those phones are vulnerable, it'll chunk down again (or it should). I can't see how you can create a software patch for a hardware problem (not having to type a password seemed like the best reason to upgrade, next to the lighter chassis)

ONLY 9 Million? I knew it, people don't like the new icons and flat design, and they hate the gold phone. If Apple had half a brain they would have at least made something people WANTED. This is pathetic, and I give Apple 2 months before they're completely irrelevant. Samsung, Google and Nokia/Microsoft must be laughing their asses off right now at this pathetic performance.
- I sense some sarcasm in there somewhereformed
- they will always be popular with their unquestioning sheep followers.fadein11
- I sense a fanboy shareholder in there somewhere.utopian
- Yes, the only people who buy Apple products are brainwashed sheep. That argument is getting old.monospaced
- mono... they are being sarcastic... wait ... were you being sarcastic as well? this is confusing...pango
- Sarcastic? NEVER! hahahamonospaced
- If what I'm saying is the exact opposite of the truth, you can be sure what I"m saying is sarcastic.monospaced
- detritus0
ooi, how does this 9m figure compare with previous releases?
- it's a new record, analysts were thinking 6mformed
- It means nothing. Since the icons are ugly Apple is doomed.monospaced
- 6M would have made sense with the same countries as prevoius models.monospaced
- monospaced0
9 million is good, but considering this is the first time (I think) that China and India are included, it's actually not as impressive as it seems.
- I don't think India is in the listESKEMA
- They are sold in India, I just don't know if it's for the 1st time.monospaced
- USA, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, Singapore, United KingdomESKEMA
- India is not on the launching countries. Although i'd thought China alone would boost those numbers..ESKEMA

In Japan, Docomo will now be a carrier for the new iPhone, which opens up the phone to several million customers who can easily afford it. And Apple is really close to signing a deal with China Mobile, which has 700 million customers. If this happens soon, their sales will go up even more.
- buy, buy, buy, buy, buy, buy, buy, buy, buy, buy, buy, buy, buy, buy, buy, buy, buy, buy, buy, buy, utopian

fingerprint hack
- that's like saying you hacked my phone because you knew my password... it's not a hack!monospaced
- why is that motherfucker so twitchy?dMullins
- mg330
I don't often get perturbed with the price of Apple stuff, but they finally released a dock for the iPhone 5/5s, and the damn thing is $30 and doesn't even come with a cable to connect to the computer. That's just fucking nuts. So add another $20 on top of that for a cable and I'll be able to plug the stupid thing into my computer whenever I want rather than move the single cable I currently have from bedroom to home office and back and forth.

So the only difference between the 5C and 5S is the processor, the plastic, and no slomo? If I was debating between the 16Gb 5S and the 32Gb 5C let's say...
- and the fingerprint sensor, and the flashmonospaced
- Which I hardly give a shit about... Mind you I have a 4, so anything will be an upgrade.fiver
- I agree, buying a new phone just to have the new model is weird to me.monospaced
- That's not what I meant...fiver
- 5C still has the old camera?lnu
- mathinc0
Monospaced, how much is Apple paying you?
- more than his dayjob as he doesn't seem to do any work.fadein11
- Why because I think only morons buy shitty apple products? Android is killing! Apple is DOOMED!!!!!monospaced
- < lolfadein11
- lnu0
I would have been interested in a phone with the 5s spec but a more 5c-like body, but instead of shiny plastic there should have been matt rubber that protruded further than the camera and screen. Built in case.
- that would be Thinking Different® but apple don't do that anymorehans_glib
- Try Moto X, that's how it feels. Pretty damn good, really.formed
