I started the above project some time ago, then life got in the way. I'm getting back on it now and wanted to get the conversation started again.
The original concept (as you can see on that page) is to essentially create an online film club. Members would vote on a film for the club to watch. Once the winning film is selected members would have two weeks to watch the film, then return back to the site to leave their review or participate in a live discussion.
Now that I'm coming back with clear eyes I'm considering simplifying greatly. I first wanted to see if any of you folks would have interest in something like this. I know a lot of people that are part of book clubs. Anyone here ever been part of a film club?
Would you see this being more fun/valuable to you if...
a) It was a site-wide film club, meaning all members participate together in one giant film club; or
b) Members would create their own private film club groups and invite others?

People have more time than to wait around and see what movie they should watch.
If you're looking to spark discussion / reviews / critiques of films, suggest a genre or something then allow people to write about what they wish so others can be introduced to new films through the writing of "peers".
However, given the multitude of movie review sites, not to mention IMDB, i feel most reviews are already written.
Also, I see no incentive to take part in this as the content you're requesting is already available in numerous other places.
- What content is available in numerous other places? The content is the discussion.autonoma
- I know and there are plenty of sites that already discuss filmsalbums

I'd try to add some original hook.... the idea seems like it needs something to stand out....
for example, random suggestion ideas:
1. Each month/week/whatever, find somebody who has worked in the film industry somehow, even if it was just a gig like "light stand mover on Man of Steel" and have a short Q/A with them about whatever film was chosen, then open them up to questions from the audience... somehow it would be great to have a different perspective...
2. Somehow have a cast of characters or moderators of the discussion, otherwise it may become too random
3. possibly have some "entrance requirement" where somebody lists their top 5 films and 5 they'd like to see, and writes a sentance or two about each one... that would gather more involved people, I'd rather have a "small" group than a random horde...

This is a great idea!!! I'd say it'd be hard to get numbers though unless this somehow joined with an existing community, personality, or even a film podcast like the slashfilmcast or something.

Albums, I think you're being a little harsh here.
The idea of an online film club is a good one. I could see it working for people who consider themselves real film buffs and like voicing their opinion.I would add kind of incentive to participate in the site, add a bit of "gamification". People like competing, like scores and want to beat others. If you do things right then you'll have film buffs competing to be the biggest buff ;)

Thanks 23kon. Glad it sounds good to you.

Would be cool if you could get away streaming them over a video streaming site.

I also like it and would participate as enjoy discussing films (if good) i.e. not SuperWolverBatman type stuff.
Nice idea. Ignore the haters.

For anyone here that wants to participate, I suggest signing up now as that'll be the best way to find out when it's live. I'll carry all user details over to the new site.
