Whats the deal with this site...
I made a booking 2 days ago for a room in LDN for 3 weeks and apparently i'm still awaiting approval but they can cancel my booking 1 day prior to move in day.
Is this site unreliable?
Or do people take ages to approve or something?

It does say that date i am looking for aren't available anymore (maybe that's because i've taken them, i don't know)

Any way to contact the owner or try directly with airbnb support?

I tried to book places in London last year and must have tried about 14 or 15 places... either no booking, no reply, no confirmation. Gave up and booked into a hotel instead.
Bag of shite.
- all on airbnb?WeLoveNoise
- Why, when you have a filthy hippy warehouse space you can crawl up into a corner in?! (just don't bring Douglas)detritus
- Hahaha D, truth be told, they were all in your warehouse.ian

Friends rent their places on AirBNB and love it.
I've only had good experiences visiting people as well. Just go where people have a good reputation.

I've used it as host and guest.. it's excellent. They recommend you contact a lot of hosts, not just one. It's the nature of the community of hosts that some may be slow to answer, but if you apply to several that you like, one of them will usually work out. There's no problem applying to many at once, the system deals with that.

I booked a place one year ago this week in Lon. Great place, great location the owner was really accommodating... located in Soho
- haha "owner was really accomodating... in Soho". As long as you enjoyed yourself, that's all that mattersdetritus

Contact people and ask them if their place is available and say something nice about the place. Sometimes you have to be approved by them to book.
It doesn't work as well if you try to book and wait to be approved.
- a lot of hosts set it to require inquiry first, then bookingribit

I got cancelled three times. One time two hours prior to arrival. I guess you can imagine how much this sucks.
But I also had nice experiences and great apartments in different cities. You really have to listen to your stomach feeling when booking. Read what the person writes and try to judge by the words what kind of person you're dealing with.
And read the comments, of course.
Good luck!

Used it for my trip to Berlin back in February. Didn't have any issues and got quick confirmation for the first (and only) place I contacted. Sounds like I got lucky.

Doesn't it make sense for AirBnB that the bigger they get, the worse the service will become? Although, I suppose one might have made that argument against eBay, and I find shopping on eBay to be mostly hassle-free.

Before booking, contact with an inquiry, they can pre-accept your dates with the reply and you will be able to make an instant booking from there.
I've had good experiences so far but the site is cumbersome at times. They for instance removed sorting places by price, forcing you to view all offers in your selected price range.

i did italy with airbnb and it was fantastic. your experience largely depends on who listed the space but you can tell through the reviews who's a waste of time

Any new experience with Airbnb? Good/Bad?
- freedom0
Choose a place with a positive review, contact them and get them to confirm that it's available. People are generally nice.
Some people post listings and then it's really only available for one random weekend in two months from now.

If someone is doing it to supplement their income and have regular bookings, they're not going to cancel on you.
Like I said above, beware of the people who rent only when they go away or whatever.
