I'm looking to add a user registration process to a WordPress site. The user should be able to sign up for an account (a couple special fields will be needed on the sign up form). Then, users with accounts get access to certain pages on the site.
Is there a good simple solution for this out there? It seems easy - but having trouble finding a good plugin that does all this.

Their is no clear solution to this.
If you're using the basic Roles and Capabilities, then you're good with default Wordpress setting: http://codex.wordpress.org/Roles…
If you want to set custom roles, you will need to set them using something like http://wordpress.org/extend/plug… (this is the only one I've found thus far) which will allow you to create unique "Roles and Capabilities" in WordPress.

WordPress user management is just about the oldest part of it, some of the form fields in the back end user profile are hardcoded in HTML forever. It is a headache to say the least.
I used Register Plus Redux for what you're trying to do. It's good to see the guy who wrote the plugin come back to working on it after a year or two but having painted myself into a corner with it two years ago, the lesson I took from it was:
"Only use paid plugins with a good history of support, where the author is motivated to keep updating it."

I've used s2member which is very powerful but can be a bit bloated! Also Gravity Forms for the user registration part is nice

Its very easy to do this:
Use members plugin and peters login redirect (redirects to a hidden content if you want hidden content for certain users).
Lots of tutorials on this on wordpress.org forums.
