I have pie charts that are made in illy - but placed into indesign. If I change the numbers in indesign should the pie charts change visually? Or will i have manually change them in illustrator? To correspond with the new numbers in indesign.
Thanks.

You will have to update the Illustrator files, save, and then update the 'linked file' that you placed into InDesign to see the updated chart / infographic.

what d_rek said.
Also, how would you go and change the numbers in ID? I don't get what you mean by that.- yeah, how are you changing the charts in InDesign if they're placed files?monospaced

I thought magically the graphics would change dynamically according the numbers inputted. But this is not the case. Its all manual entries.
thank y'all

It may not fit stylistically with what you're doing but you could always try something like FF Chartwell. Then your charts + numbers could be contained within InDesign.

Adobe CS7 actually has this feature. It will be able to automatically determine the context of any image you have input into indesign and adjust the data around it accordingly. They showed off one feature where a childrens book was laid out with illustrations accompanying the written word. Swapping the illustrations out with a new embedded file automatically re-wrote the text content to match the new illustration.
In another example, they show how you can write an adjective next to an image—say, for example, a vector image of a dog—and it alters the image accordingly. Placing the word "blue" in a text field next to the dog would change the dog blue. The fire hydrant stays red.
Breathtaking stuff, people.

Does anyone here know what's going on here? I've placed a CMYK Illustrator EPS in a layout but it's only visible in High Quality Display. No rough/pixellated version in Typical Display. The bounding box fits the artwork as expected, the Links palette says everything it should, and the artwork is on the only layer in the file.
- Make sure that the vectors are set for high quality in Preferences even in the High Quality setting?monospaced
- is it EPS or AI ?
if eps, resave with "preview" checkedGnash - oh wow, that helped me too Gnash!monospaced
- :) I always resave as AI - no reason to use EPS anymoreGnash
- Preview was already included.i_monk

Aha... When I check Rasterize The Postscript (instead of Use TIFF Preview) under Import Options when placing the file in question, it shows up.
There must be something wrong with the way the file is saving its TIFF preview (because it does have one).

How do you make real pie charts in Illustrator aside from shapes?
Is this a troll thread?
- you do it with the pie chart tool (not troll response)monospaced

change CMYK values to what?
- ESKEMA0
the most quick way is to copy a rectangle with the new color or colors, paste in new document, delete old color and choose the new one in the replace dialog... better than edit values in each document.

Wait... did the OP really think that changing a text box in INDD would affect placed artwork from Illy?
That is fan-fucking-tastic.
- yup, it is spec-fucking-tacularmonospaced

what mess is that in the first place that you need to change 26 documents?? I'm not joking or trying to be mean here, I would really like to know because sometimes there are other tips that can be thinked of..
