Most digital agencies do this:
UX Designer
- A mix of user research, interaction design and information architecture.
- In some ways, a business consultant.
- Owns the "discovery" process and participates in the "design" process.Interactive Designer/UI Designer
- Visual design for websites, applications, etc.
- Participates and informs user experience, but ultimately doesn't "own" the full vision.- I don't know a lot of people who can play both roles.studderine

I think UX Designers are (and should be) closed coupled with Information Architects, if not synonymous. UI Designer is basically the new-fangled corporate euphemistic sorcery for what used to be a web designer.

I've noticed this too, but too many companies are looking for the elusive "unicorn". If a company wants a hybrid UX/UI Designer they are probably more interested in visual design capabilities.

it's the same difference between a Marketer & a Social media expert.
I think interactive design always contained UX in itself but it's recently labeled and diverged.

Everyone is inventing their own version of whatever brand of UX bullshit they are selling.

As I'm currently looking for a new job, I'm noticing what might be some overlap between two disciplines: user experience and interactive design. I'm starting to see job listings that more often merge UX and Interactive Design roles into a role that is both UX and visual design, occasionally meaning that feeling qualified for a UX position is lessened by requirements for actually designing the visual aspects of sites.
Has anyone else noticed this? Or, is anyone working on what feels like a hybrid role of these two things?
