it is actually very hard to catch tuberculosis in a public setting, even if you're sitting next to someone infected, say, on a bus. you'll need extended exposure in confined space with the right conditions for cross-infection to happen. it spreads among homeless people, for instance, because they share some cramped, damp space to sleep in. or prison cells, 'cause there's overcrowding and no ventilation.
