Im thinking about getting a monitor for home for my laptop if that makes sense.
Im thinking about getting the apple one but then do I need a special cable that costs loads more.
Are there any other monitors that do the same job for a better price?
Help please

Yeah, you can get a monitor with the SAME kind of display Apple uses for a MUCH better price, but then you don't get some of the other features that you may or may not use, like an adjustable stand, thunderbolt ports, good speakers and stuff. I think there are like a hundred threads about this here.

Thanks Mono... Do do need to buy the cord though, right? Last time I did this about 8/9 years ago the cord cost me like 200 bucks!?!?!?
- I have no idea. Depends on your current laptop, the inputs on the monitor you choose, etc.monospaced
- and there's no display adaptor that costs that much that I'm aware ofmonospaced
- I used to be based in the UK ;)nylon

the apple display adapters can be expensive, but not $200. You could look it up, friend.
The Cinema Display is awesome - I have one. But my work paid for it. I am sure you can find something equivalent for 1/2 the price.
Again. This google thing, works pretty good. Why don't you get some real information, and then ask a real question?

I need some help!
I have a Mac Pro (2006) and I'm wondering if I could hook up a Thunderbolt to it? A friend of mine offered to sell me his.
What kind of adaptor would I need???
Thanks!

That seems like it would work, but there might be more cost effective adaptors

Get the thunderbolt display and stop thinking about it. I debated it for days and in the end I'm so happy I went with that monitor.

Yea im pretty sure that old of a machine with a stock card wont get the max resolution of the monitor. Probably better off with a cheaper 1920x1200 display
- That machine was designed to drive a 30" ACD or two.raf
- yea but what is the resolution of the 30". I honestly dont know what card the 2006 has but id speculate it might be a 256-512mb card with res at 1920x1200deathboy
- 256-512MB card with max res at 1920x1200deathboy
- personally i dont liek the cinemas. I dont know if it jsut me but i cant stop staring at that weird dot texture pattern on themdeathboy
- ACD 30" - 2560x1600, even early MacBooks Pro drive them easily.raf
- Resolution is not a problem, connector is. Easy to connect a new laptop to old display thanraf
- ...old computer to Thunderbolt Display.raf
- I had 2011 MB Air wih just 384 MB Video RAM drive a 30" ACD with ease (needs dual-DVI connector though)raf
- Looked it up a 7300 gt can go 2560x1600 with a dual dvi. 1920x1200 with a single. If that is the card should be gooddeathboy
- you were right. my bad. but damn adaptors are priceydeathboy

I'm thinking about going with the refurb cinema display as well. how's the glare? I'm an antiglare type of person and have been debating it for a while.
- Don't put it with a window behind it unless you have a shade on it. I've got it in such a way, but mostly keep the shade drawn and lights down.mg33
