"It might not be capable of upgrades?"
Exactly. At furthest you'll get to Lion, but Mountain Lion only runs on the newest machines. I'm assuming since you're still back on 10.5.8 that your computer isn't capable of going past Lion.
- Ah I see.CygnusZero4
- Incorrect mono. Mountain Lion doesn't run on some older computers but does run on 2008 MBPs.shaft

@CygnusZero4 didn't we had this thread a few months ago? I'm having a bit of deja vu.

Yes, you'll have to update to Snow Leopard and after that you'll have access to the App Store in OS X. If your computer is capable of upgrades after that, you'd use the App Store to upgrade.
- ernexbcn0
Oh, the Mac App Store comes with OS X 10.6.6, so yeah if you want to upgrade you'll need to install Snow Leopard get all its updates and from the App Store app buy Mountain Lion.

^ Ok, pretend this is my first time using a computer and explain again. Do I need to go to a store and buy Snow Leopard?
- Tell me in plain English like Im an idiot. No words like DMG or partitions.CygnusZero4
- You don't need to do any of the stuff he's mentioning above. See below.monospaced

You can restore any OS X installation DMG to a DVD or a external drive with a big enough partition to make it fit or a USB stick, then boot from it.
I prefer doing clean installs so I always do this, boot with the installation disk so I can format the disk, you can also install on top if you prefer.

I have never actually upgraded the OS on my macbook. Right now Im running 10.5.8. So basically I need to start by upgrading to Snow Leopard 10.6, correct?
