"Shaking the Habitual feels not post-human but profoundly humanist, fueled by an unfashionable but profoundly refreshing faith in music's ability to hypnotize, to agitate, and to liberate-- to become, in Winterson's words, "the high note that smashes the glass and spills the liquid."

She did the song they use in the Vikings opening credits on her 2009 solo album.

New record is pretty damn great...not sure why so many are disappointed.

There's this track, Raging Lung, that is so frustrating to listen to. Has this amazing melody in the chorus, though she only sings the phrase once and doesn't follow up.... whole album feels like this. Like you hear genius songwriting, though they have purposefully twisted and melted it away from being pop. Not an easy listen, though no doubt great music.

It's an interesting album. It's kind of like you were beamed a few years into the future and hearing what music sounds like then without any context or preparation.

I miss choruses.

Felt a little disappointed at first since I had such high expectations for it. And I still feel they went too far with the instrumental tracks. But after the five hour repeat marathon I had yesterday I have to say that the album is nothing but pure genius. In my world it's the best record released since her Fever Ray project.
