starkers all the way, apply some bodacious css
Starkers is a good start. When I was first getting my head around building sites from scratch in WP, I used Starkers to get my head around the various templates and tags. It's simple enough that you can strip it back further without losing track of what you're doing and fucking it up (like the built in default themes).
Looking for something more portfolio based. While the example I posted had a lot of images, it was very clear and almost entirely images.
I want to stay away from the typical columns of text and generic grid like.
Honestly, I haven't seen any WP site that looked as unique as the one I posted and had assumed we'd have to go another route.
Anymore ideas for more portfolio/image based examples? Something without columns of text.
i'm enjoying building a couple of sites right now using foundation. i coded an adaptive site recently from scratch w/ starkers but foundation provides alot of logical add-ons and baked in responsive goodness so i'm feeling it out. there's also a wp port of foundation by a nerd on github...
layers isn't very mobile friendly. besides, it's easier to code out your own and drop the syntax anymore than try to wrap some random round hole around your square peg
