Are you talking about the bold subheader or the condensed body copy?
I take no issue with the bold subheader - it is what it is.
However, I will say that using a condensed / compressed font for long passages of text is just bad type ettiquette. Those types of fonts are not typically suited for body copy–and you're right, they're better suited to headline or display copy.
I'm not so sure this is a trend insomuch as it is just bad typography.

It is a trend, I can list a few sites that I've seen it on.
Speaking not of the bold subhead, but the condensed body copy. I'm seeing it everywhere; it's a funny choice for copy, was wondering if I was going crazy or if any of your QBN'ers agreed.
Thanks for the affirmation.
