Yo cats -
Any idea how this is done? Can it be done in After effects with particular or MIR?and

God, I wished I'd gone down this route sometimes.
Love the faux laser-scanned look on these, it's very convincing. I can break it down in my head how they did it, but given I'm a videotard I have no idea how they ACTUALLY went about it.
Thanks for showing me something that put a sregretful knot in my stomach... ;)
- all the above objects are point clouds, no polys, just particlesWeyland

Here you go duder!
- Looks more like a surface treatment on standard 3d geometries than the actualy thing.detritus
- Sorry - the second video linked above does look like it's actually laser-scanneddetritus
- Word, Pretty sure that the first video is a 3D projection using sourced models, then they filmed the results of tweaking them.toemaas

Could that effect not be fairly well approached by using a grainy animated texture on conventional 3d objects ? The 3d animation itself is great, but not too complex, certainly in c4d some of the projection types that are available produce odd, unrealistic results, without the need for realism and an organic style animated texture the results could be quite exciting. I'll admit to never having thought of creating something like that until seeing it. Very engaging :)

Oh yeah. Good point. But, the end result, in this case, would have to remain in video format and could not be used in an installation type presentation like the examples above.
