How do galleries with like one or two pieces of art in them make money?
What about one big installation?
Do they hope that one rich person will buy it for their house? and that is worth showing it for a month?

often galleries have work hanging on the wall primarily as a pr venture. some galleries that deal in secondary market work do a majority of their business behind closed doors. the exhibition space serves as a fluffer.

How long are those one or two pieces of art in there for?
How small is the gallery? How large the commission?
Are the two paintings on the wall the only thing they're dealing?
Is the husband bank-rolling the wife's fantasy?

The installation showcases the artists work. Most of the sales are done from the artists catalogs, fairs, corporate art buyers, etc. If the artist has enough clout they don't need to fill the space with many pieces.
