When printing a webpage, it doesn't seem to print the background colors by default. Is there any way around this (to force all browsers to print background)?

it's default because printing a background would eat the shit out of your ink

Thanks. I understand print stylesheets, just wondered if there was any way around the background color issue.

Not typically. It's a browser preference. Neither background colors or images will print unless the user elects to in their preference.

If you color that with "background-color:" it still won't work. It's not that it's on the body tag, its usually just the background declaration on any element that gets excluded.
You could try a tiled, colored image in a div and using z-index, place it below your content.
