I've browsed the threads and it seems like most places out there do a lot of motion for the movie industry.
How the small design studio / print scene out there? For a young designer?
Is it really sunny all the time?

People that live in other cities sometimes (myself included) say things like: "Well... all the work is in LA" when you are there, you probably pick another city.. kinda like the grass is greener on the other side thing..
Print scene in general is hard at the moment. Learn interactive or motion to increase your chances of getting a job at an agency, or be amazing at networking because there's more people out there that know a single medium than people that are able to move around based on agency needs.

So the world is the same everywhere?

Solid for Interactive and Motion, agree. Print, older designers are established, so be ready to grovel. One thing that is changing though is being able to commute by bicycle, so the need for a car is changing. Trains are connecting downtown to the coast. In the next decade it should get even better.

Note - The need for talented designers which are professional, low on ego, fast and easy to work with is high. It will always be high if your AD doesn't have to be concerned about your project delivery milestones.
- Basically there is a huge need for designers that don't talk back when asked to work weekendsqTime
