update: I cleaned my linkedin, loaded some new work, followed some companies and it actually helped me get some job interviews,
Now from tomorrow I'll update my be_hance, haven't posted anything on it since 2010.. let see how it goes

As a research tool, I love LinkedIn. If I want to bypass HR to send my CV to an ECD, LinkedIn is absolutely the first place I look to.

Its a tool.
Find its use.I stay in contact with former work acquaintances, see where they're working. Application process is much quicker when you know someone.
You can search companies and see whose hiring as well.

I refused to participate in it until recently and I was quickly proven wrong.
I've both connected with clients and started looking for people to hire on there.
Not the best site, but it seems to be getting better.
I do wish they were more clear on how you can request 'connections', seems to be totally random who requires emails and who doesn't (long time client requires email, random people across teh world doesn't)

You can either moan about how it is, or you can use it to get new clients. It's up to you.
You can turn off all the alerts and annoying crap that they email.
At the end of the day, it's a network like any other. You have to be on there and learn to use it to make any headway.
Just yesterday for example, a lady phoned me up because she'd seen something I have on my profile that she wants to offer to her clients. So out of the blue, I have a new referrer.

Anyone who calls themselves "a creative" is just a snob.

Man, i still get great offers thru Linkedin and have in the past received quite a few jobs. I never bothered with Be-hance and most my mates in LDN never use it. As a CD now if i want to check anyone out i go straight to their Linkedin profile. I do get the odd Be-hance portfolio every now and then but not much. I think Linkedin is great.

they sell user data like no other social network... not to mention the endless 'spam'.

fyoucher1 - you can ad video to LinkedIn in a different way.
Create a google doc with a video in and then use the google docs app within LinkedIn.

Anyone know if the LinkedIn Be-hance feature can feature video within a LinkedIn subpage? Or is it just static imagery?

i joined up on linked in years and years ago....and have found it to be a pretty great tool for keeping in touch with old colleagues etc...bouncing from one company to another, your circle of potential clients is always getting bigger and bigger.. i don't use it every day, but it's like any other tool i suppose...when i DO need it, it does the job it's designed to do remarkably well....

I find it extremely useful.

So the question is...
What are the folks doing that are landing jobs that the rest of us earth-bound pigs are not?
