Ive got an external drive that I need to just wipeout and reformat. I dont know macs that well. How do I do this?
It needs to be reformatted because it says only 25% of it is free, except that when I look in the drive there's not much there, only maybe about 5gb's worth of stuff, so it needs to be wiped I think.

click on the magnifying glass in the top right hand corner (searchlight) and just type in 'disk utility'

hey. you have to "empty" the trash can. even if you deleted the files. they go there.
